If you invest in one piece of knitwear this season, make it a red knit. Rich against chocolate brown and striking when paired with purple, it’s the fashion-forward classic to own for AW26. And a firm favourite with the style set.

When autumn rolls around, I’m the first to wrap up in my snuggly winter whites, but this year I’m turning up the heat in fiery red. While I’ll never part with my ivory roll-necks, that pop of scarlet has me hooked. It’s the ultimate antidote to winter, instantly adding warmth and personality. It’s bold, confident and playful. By popping on a red jumper or cardigan, even if it’s just nonchalantly draped across your shoulders, you very quickly elevate your outfit. French label Sézane is the perfect example of this. Even when teaming a red knit with jeans, the whole look feels expensive and considered.

Now, admittedly, you can opt for actual expensive pieces, specifically in wool and cashmere. Look to British icon Harrods for the most lustworthy collection of designer knits, from Miu Miu to Burberry. Then you have one of my favourites, American Vintage, which has some of the softest, most luxe sweaters, in red, yes, but also every other colour imaginable.

If you’re very much on the fence, I urge you to give it a go. There’s a reason hordes of content creators are wearing, and I’m pretty sure it’s because of the compliments rolling in. And we all love a compliment…
