8 Ways to Live Like a Local in Parsons Green

20th January 2016 | By Emily Gray

Parsons Green; that little hamlet just east of Fulham as it was described by the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales in 1870 (which was the topographical dictionary of the day don’t you know?), maybe somewhat overlooked, given that it is sandwiched between Putney, Fulham and Wandsworth. But overlook it and you’d be missing out on some fine establishments; check out our guide on how to live like a local and make the most of Parsons Green.

Little H

Hally's Younger Sister

The ever-full and ever-popular, Hally’s has a younger sibling just across the road, in the form of Little H. A slice of California and Cape Town, Little H is ray of sunshine from its yellow exterior and beach style interior to its health conscious menu. It can cater to vegans, those on the paleo diet and those who are gluten and dairy free; with raw bliss balls, toasted seeds, raw beetroot bars and vegan courgette loaf all on offer.

Roxie

Date night at a Steak restaurant

Yes it’s on Fulham Road, but Roxie’s is a stone’s throw to Parsons Green tube and so we’re ignoring that it is classed as Fulham and including it in this guide. 16 years ago the team behind Roxie set out to find excellent, affordable steak in London…they then decided that they could do better. Serving up great steak as well as ‘delicious ribs and stuff’ check out their Sunday fillet lunches – tender fillet served with slow-roasted potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, honey roasted veg and rosemary gravy.

Halva

A taste of the sweet life

Also on the Parsons Green/Fulham boarder is Halva bakery. Serving up straight out of the oven, fresh, warm bread and devilishly good tarts and cakes, Halva is everything you need in a local bakery. They make a pretty mean cup of coffee too – the perfect place to commit carbicide.

Amuse Bouche

The bar with all the Champagne

What do we love about Amuse Bouche? The fact that it’s below Claude’s Kitchen so you can go upstairs for supper? Yes, that’s a reason. That they have live music which makes everyone get up dance? Yep, that too. The fact that their bottles of Champagne are at seriously competitive prices? That’s the one. It’s your ticket to the weekend.

The White Horse

More beer than you can drink

The White Horse or Sloany Pony as it’s also known, is a beer-lover’s dream. Behind the bar you’ll find 135 bottled beers, 8 cask ales, draught beers and imported keg beers from the likes of the US and throughout the year are a number of beer festivals and beer-related events. That said they’re food is rather darn good too and the crowds flock to their terrace and BBQ throughout summer.

Bistro by Shot

All-day dining

Whether you’re grabbing a cup of coffee and croissant on the way to the tube, eating waffles and Nutella on a Sunday morning or whiling away a Friday night with a big plate of beef bourguignon and a glass of wine, Bistro by Shot offers simple, seasonal dishes with a French-Italian twist.

Slice Studio

Where it's good to have an extra slice

With three studios and gym – Slice Studios offers a whole range of classes from spin and barre to ballet bootcamp and trampolining. It’s right by the tube too so you can grab a juice from the cafe below and head straight off to work. With a relaxed, homely atmosphere, they make sure exercise never feels like a chore.

Bayley and Sage

The local deli

So you wouldn’t necessarily do your weekly shop here; but when you want something for a dinner party or you just feel like treating yourself because you can, then Parsons Green’s deli, Bayley & Sage is the place to go. You’ll find cheeses, charcuterie, wine, fish, fresh bread, cakes, olives, vinegars – all the finest things in life really.
