Our Guide to Top Wedding Venues

23rd March 2015

Any girl who uses Pinterest is bound to have that one board that you pray your new boyfriend will not lock eyes on, that said board is a shrine to your future nuptials. It is the ‘wedding board’ which will only reach its full potential when that ring is placed on your left hand. Whether you are single or the sound of wedding bells are very much in the air, here at The Handbook, we are under the impression that is never too early to get planning and as such have compiled a list of our favourite London wedding venues…as a source of inspiration of course.

Trinity House
If anyone knows weddings, it is Henry VIII and for that reason who better to take influence from when picking your wedding venue. Yes, the Casanova of the 16th century, granted the Corporation of Trinity House a Royal Charter in 1514, the same corporation that finds its headquarters in Trinity House today. If you are looking for beauty, than look no further than this neoclassical building to host your special day. Featuring several elegant state rooms, overlooking the Tower of London (another favourite haunt of Henry’s) and the River Thames, this is the venue for those who want a wedding with a spritz of history. www.trinityhouse.co.uk

St. Pauls Roof Pavilion, Southbank Centre
If you are looking for a more modern setting, why not head to the sixth floor of the Southbank Centre, where you will find St. Pauls Roof Pavilion. The venue, which can hold up to 150 guests, features an outdoor balcony running along the length of the room offering stunning views of the Thames and the rest of the city. With views of this kind, it might not only be the bride and groom who fall in love. Perhaps an extra incentive to catch the bouquet! www.southbankcentre.co.uk

Clissold House

If you are looking for a country wedding without leaving London, then there is no better place than Clissold House in Hackney. The eighteenth century mansion is set in the confines of Clissold Park, making it the number one location for any Jane Austen fans. Marry your Mr Darcy, beneath the house’s beautiful sky light, before heading outside for a reception to remember. www.hackneyvenues.com

Home House
Described as a “palace of pleasure” by Elizabeth, Countess of Home, this private members club, promises to create a wedding fit for a queen. To set off proceedings, we recommend hosting a wedding breakfast in the Asylum Room, a delightful book-lined room seating up to 18 people. With a choice of several function rooms with which to entertain guests, there is something for everyone here, meaning your wedding dreams can become a reality. www.homehouse.co.uk

Chandos House
Based in the heart of Maryleborne, Chandos House is the perfect venue for those of you that like to channel your inner Marie Antoinette.  Once the private residence of various aristocracy, the house is famous for hosting parties on lavish scale. Invite your guests to eat (wedding) cake surrounded by marble fireplaces in one of their five function rooms, or if you prefer, head outside to their secluded garden roof terrace for an evening to remember. www.chandoshouse.co.uk

Nash Conservatory, Kew Gardens
Originally built in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, the Nash Conservatory was moved brick-by-brick to Kew in 1896. Offering a plethora of natural lighting, the conservatory is the oldest of the 19th century glasshouse, providing you with a unique venue in which to host your special day. Seating up to 200 guests, the venue allows you to create your very own secret garden moment. www.kew.org

One Marylebone
One Marylebone, formally Holy Trinity Church offers the perfect combination of classic elegance and contemporary practicality. It has been described by some as the “epitome of romance” and once you step inside you can understand why. With open rooms such as the Soane Hall and a basement bar, perfect for your reception, it is no wonder this is one of the most sought after wedding venues in London. www.one-events.co.uk

Searcys, The Gherkin
This is very much one for the thrill seekers but if you are not adverse to heights, how about getting married in The Gherkin? Located on the top two floors of the venue, you will quite literally feel on cloud nine as you tie the knot. Combine this with 360 degree views of the city and it will be hard not to say ‘I do’. Just make sure none of your guests suffer from vertigo!  www.searcys.co.uk

The Painted Hall, Old Royal Naval College
Decorated with the paintings of Sir John Thornhill, The Painted Hall is one of the “finest dining rooms in Europe.” Arrive by boat to the venue, and feel truly majestic as your descend down the aisle to your husband to be. Following the grandeur of the painted hall, guests will be treated to dinner in the King William Undercrofts before trying out a spot of Skittles in the newly refurbished Victorian skittle alley. www.ornc.org
