The Handbook
By Lottie Hulme | 20th September 2018

Whilst some might associate autumn with a glass half empty approach, what with it being the end of summer, heat waves, fond Love Island memories and all that jazz, others may take it in their stride, as a time to embrace the over-sized jumpers, don your best socks and wade through insta-perfect forests. In fact, there’s a lot to be excited about in Autumn; yep, the weather may have cooled down a little, but we have Halloween to scare away that sadness, alongside new restaurant openings, autumnal walks and an array of events to dispel the autumnal angst. What’s more, it’s a time to not feel guilty for indulging in a hot chocolate, and there’s never anything to frown about…

Weekend Wanderings

Ooo, it’s time for a bit of luxe; something every worthwhile weekend needs! Mayfair restaurant Mercante is celebrating the “BELLISSIMO” culture of Italy alive by asking us Londoners to get our shoes on, enjoy a dinner and take a sunset walk, apasseggiata. Gosh what an ask! Next they’ll be requesting us to drink fine wine and have a good time! The event will be led by historian and London expert Peter Berthoud, a man who’s had many a stroll around London. And because all that walking deserves a refreshment, the Mayfair Passeggiatas will end at Mercante with a complimentary classic aperitivo of an Aperol Spritz on the terrace. Now that’s what I call a great idea/ (making the most of the incy-wincy bit of nice weather we still have)!

The Mayfair Passeggiatas run from 8th September – 6th October

Where: Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, Piccadilly, London, United Kingdom
Nearest station: Green Park (0.4 miles)

Museums at Night

Its around about that time that things get a little spookier. It’s getting darker at night, you wake up and its dark in the morning, oh and of course there’s Halloween! So, Museums at Night is the perfect autumn addition, allowing visitors to soak up late-night culture at a variety of museums, galleries and heritage sights…after hours! The series will feature spooky events, talks and immersive workshops. So, whether it’s the Chocolate Museum or if you fancy Choo, Choo-ing your way to the London Transport Museum, there’s something for one and all.

Running from the 25-27th October

BOO! Yup, Halloween has returned for another year, and that alone should definitely be a reason to be cheerful. Whether you’re opting for a classic look, (skeleton, witch etc), or whether it’s getting all Mean Girls up in here with sexy cats galore, it’s a time to get groovin’, and preparing the tricks part of the famous Halloween phrase!

London Cocktail Week

London Cocktail Week time! ‘Cocktail’, except for the slightly anatomical refernce, it’s got to be our favourite word. ‘Want to come for cocktails?’, ‘I’m just mixing a cocktail’, how great does that sound? Well, thankfully we live in quite possibly the perfect city to make the most of them. And with cocktail week around the corner (expect plenty of noise from us then), it’s cocktail menu unveiling season with plenty of new menus hitting London’s bars and restaurants. So here’s our roundup of some of the most enjoyable or just down-right intriguing.

London Cocktail Week runs from the 1st-7th of October. Take a look at some of London’s best cocktail menus

Blenheim Palace

Walk in Churchill's Footsteps

As Winston Churchill once said: “The price of greatness is responsibility,” and we think you should take responsibility and get yourself down to Blenheim Palace this autumn, and walk in Winston Churchill’s footsteps. The trail takes you through the palace, park and formal gardens and includes a Churchill Memorial Garden next to the Temple of Diana. There’s much more to enjoy at Blenheim this autumn too, inclusive of Blenheim Palace Festival of Literature, Film and Music and the annual Contemporary Art Exhibition with the Blenheim Art Foundation.

Where: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, OX20 1PP, United Kingdom
Nearest station: Hanborough (1.7 miles)

Nicholas Balfe and his team are heading to Peckham this October to open Levan, the second restaurant after the successful Salon restaurant. The restaurant will be inspired by the new wave of bistronomy that began in the quartiers in Paris. It will be open all day, with a European dish focus along with natural wines.

Where: 12-16 Blenheim Grove, UK

Potter Down to this...

If a night on the town doesn’t ruffle your cloak this Halloween, how about some Harry Potter action as the Dark Arts comes to Warner Bros. Studio for a tour. If you love a death eater (what’s wrong with you), and are partial to feasting on Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, and Hagrid’s Rock Cakes, then it’s one for you! The experience includes walking down a gloomy Diagon Alley, practising your wand combat techniques and entering the world of the Dark Arts. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…

Starbucks' Autumn Drinks

Lest we forget! With autumn comes the tasty return of Starbucks’ coveted autumnal drinks. That’s right, if you’re a pundit for a pumpkin latte, now’s your time to shout hurrah as you load up the Starbucks’ and insta apps. From pumpkin spiced lattes as well as a brand new range in the form of maple syrup – yum!? There’s also the new Cordusio; made with double shot of espresso, mixed with mocha, milk and a dusting of cocoa, to get the tongue tingling!
