What To Do This Weekend: 24th-26th March

It’s our favourite time of the week again, when we get to tell you about everything going on this weekend. This time round we have a new exhibition at the Tate free pizza, a Sunday roast with sky high views and  rather good offer at a burger joint. Oh and if you’ve forgotten, Sunday is Mother’s Day – if you haven’t sent your cards do it now and check out our Mother’s Day guide for 46 great events happening this weekend!

The Wizard Inn

What: Cauldrons and Potions

Why: Had a long week? Us too. Which is why we’re going to be escaping London, leaving the muggles behind and stepping into the wizarding world and heading to The Wizard Inn…I mean that’s what we would do if we could work out how to get into the wizarding world – don’t try running into the wall at Kings Cross, you just look odd. Instead we’ll be visiting The Old Stoke Newington Church which is transforming into The Wizard Inn for a night of unlimited smoking cocktails, food and live entertainment – we’re hoping the Weird Sisters might perform…

Ten Days Six Nights at Tate

What: Art Exhibition

Why: The first BMW Tate Live Exhibition will run for, as the name suggests, ten days and six nights. It’ll bring together different artists working on different platforms including Isabel Lewis, who will be exhibiting her signature occasions, where she will be combining music, food, drink and perfume to create an alternative environment for dance, discussions and invited musicians. Also, watch out for Fujiko Nakaya who will be transforming the South Terrace for the first time with an immersive fog sculpture.

Boom Burger

What: 50% Off at Boom Burger

Why: Boom Burger, Notting Hill’s Jamaican burger shack has been taking a little time out to shake up its menu, but now they are good to go again and all this week they’ve been treating us to 50% off for food as a welcome back. So (apart from tonight) you’ve got until Sunday to get 50% off the likes of fried chicken boom with buttermilk fried chicken, scotch bonnet mayonnaise and house slaw and the avocado boom – a beef patty with cheese, fried avocado covered in scotch bonnet sweet chilli sauce. Boom Burger is back with, yep, got to be said – a boom.

Fera at Claridge's

What: Luxurious Mother's Day Lunch

Why: Treat your mother to lunch at one of London’s finest restaurants this Mothering Sunday. Fera at Claridge’s will be serving a specially created 8-course Taste of Fera Mother’s Day menu from Friday through to Sunday with dishes including the beautifully presented stewed rabbit with lovage and Yorkshire rhubarb with rose. Champagne included, naturally.

What: Street Food Newbie

Why: It’s no secret that we love a dumpling so when news of a new place for dumplings breaks, we’re all over it. Shoreditch’s Dinerama have just welcomed Yumplings to their line-up. From the people behind Yum Bun, Yumplings will join Farang, Duck’N Roll and Slider Bar to serve two different fillings – pork or mushroom – with infused oil. They started their residency last week so, a week in, will have perfected any teething problems.

The Dairy

What: Cooks Cooking for Cooks

Why: This weekend, Clapham restaurant The Dairy is hosting their first Bloodshot supper club of 2017 with guest chef Mark Jarvis of Anglo. The event was thought up by Robin Gill and Nuno Mendes (Chiltern Firehouse) over lunch at The Dairy and is a way for restaurant and food industry employees to let their hair down a little as chefs get creative and cook exactly what they like, ripping up the rule book. Got work? It starts at 11pm…! Don’t work in the industry? Ten places are available for the public but act quickly.

What: London's Highest Sunday Roast

Why: Elevate your roast to new heights at Oblix. The Shard’s 32nd floor restaurant is launching their Sunday Roast in the Sky this weekend and it’s suitably indulgent; think chicken with truffle, suckling pig, rib of beef, and rotisserie duck served with the likes of beef-fat potatoes, horseradish mash and creamed spinach and gruyere. Oh, and those views.

What: Free Pizza

Why: Battersea Power Station is, this weekend, welcoming Copenhagen’s favourite pizza restaurant to its new home. The first international outpost will bring with it Napoli style sourdough pizzas; simple and rustic, cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven and to celebrate Sunday being Mother’s Day, the aptly named restaurant will be giving out free pizza from midday till 4pm.

Don’t Just Live For the Weekend….

  • Coq au Vin Supper
    On Monday 27th Sardine will be hosting their next monthly supper club this time focusing on coq au vin. The menu will include wild garlic and cantal tart, Christina’s salad with walnut oil and crème fraiche dressing, coq au vin and to finish poached pear and honey ice cream. www.sardine.london
  • Cuban Cigar Tasting
    Head to Madison on Tuesday 28th for a rooftop Cuban cigar tasting with Japanese Suntory whiskies, small plates and canapes. www.madisonlondon.net
  • The First Supper Club
    Tanner & Co are hosting their inaugural supper club, aptly named the First Supper Club. Platters of food including Tanner scotch egg bits, chicken scrumpets and beef cheek cottage pie. They’ll be pairing innovative cocktails with the dishes such as a burnt toffee flavoured Scotch, a rum with peanut butter and a Gin Collins with a pear and sage infused gin. www.tannerandco.co.uk
