What To Do This Weekend: 2nd-4th September

1st September 2016 | By Fran Hazell, Emily Gray

The 1st of September is officially the first day of autumn. Don’t blame us, that’s just what the weatherman said. The best way to mark the changing of the seasons is with a weekend full of plans, from new brunches – one of which is entirely chocolate based – to playing croquet on a rooftop. Here is your weekend agenda:

Meatopia

Meat. Lots of Meat.

Meatopia is back for the fourth year with the addition of a Friday night party to see in the weekend. A line up of over 50 chefs includes Yottam Ottolenghi of Nopi, Josh Katz of Berber & Q and Brad McDonald of Shotgun each preparing a signature dish – think shawarma spiced whole goat (Nopi), whole lamb mechoui (Berber & Q) and baby back ribs (Shotgun). Live music, craft workshops and lots of craft beer completes the line up.
Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th September

Where: Tobacco Dock, 50 Porters Walk, Wapping, E1W 2SF

Fashion and Design Month at Regent Street

Live Fashion Illustrations

Regent Street are celebrating a month of design and fashion kicking off on Saturday. The ‘Style Sketch Show’ will see fashion illustrator Clym Evernden take to the streets, sketchbook in hand, as he sketches street style of passing shoppers in a series of quick fire illustrations. Put on your most stylish ensemble and hope that Clym immortalises your outfit on paper – shoppers get to keep their sketches. If you miss out there are a whole load of upcoming talks throughout September from big names in fashion including Amanda Wakeley and editors of ELLE magazine. The talks are free, take place at Hotel Cafe Royal and include drinks and nibbles.
Saturday 3rd September

Islington Green Night Market

Gastronomical street food specialists, The Epicureans, are heading to Islington Green for their latest venture and bringing with them Cheeky Burger, Chunky Buddha and Comfort Kitchen with many more. Hopefully their names are as good as these.

Great Fire 350

Fire of London Festivities

2016 marks 350 years since the Great Fire of London and there are a whole host of events to honour it, from talks to installations and art. This weekend marks the actual dates of the fire, which blazed for three devastating days from 2nd-5th September 1666. Visit The Monument (for free and with extended opening hours), discover St Paul’s Cathedral at night, explore artefacts from the fire and – right up our street – visit the night time food market at Guildhall Yard. All our favourites are there with fiery versions of their food – wood-fired pizzas from Made of Dough, spicy chicken from Mama’s Jerk and a special chilli and raspberry filling from Crosstown Doughnuts.

The Chocolate House

Chocolate Brunch

Our prayers have been answered, there is a god – well in this case, there are two goddesses. Their names are Jaz and Jules and they have launched… wait for it… a chocolate brunch. Served every Saturday and the Sunday, the brunch (which is also vegan so everyone can get involved) includes the likes of chocolate stout waffles with banana, chocolate sauce and crushed peanuts; cinnamon and cocoa dusted French toast made in a coconut, almond and banana batter topped with a berry compote and maple syrup and even chocolate savoury dishes. Yep we’re talking cornbread waffles with roast cherry tomatoes with cocoa pesto drizzle. There’ll be breakfast cocktails too or you can just add a shot of organic liqueur to their signature single origin drinking chocolate. Jaz and Jules, thank you.

Where: 1 Chapel Market, Islington, N1 9EZ

The Chambord Chapter Eight Games

Croquet and Cocktails

Any preconceived ideas you might have of croquet will be done away with as the Chambord Chapter Eight Games return this weekend. Taking place on a rooftop in Dalston it’s your chance to drink Chambord cocktails, play croquet with flamingo mallets (it’s all very Alice in Wonderland) and feast on French-American burgers from Le Bun and Chambord Royale Crones from Dum Dum Donutterie. So gather your pals, bring your croquet A game and get ready to party.

Where: Dalston Roof Park, 18 Ashwin Street, Dalston, E8 3DL

Hackney House

The Small Film Festival

2006 saw the launch of The Smalls, a platform to promote the small film industry and to help up and coming artists in the field. They began with a two-day event in Covent Garden, but fast forward to now and they have a film festival at Hackney House running from this Saturday until next Tuesday. As well as showcasing new different short films there will also be networking events and workshops which will look at how to secure funding for your next film and how to create ground breaking video content. Basically if you make films or just like to watch them you can’t afford to miss this.
Saturday 3rd – Tuesday 6th September

Where: 25 - 27 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3LT, United Kingdom
