What To Do This Weekend: 9th-11th December

With only two weekends to go until Christmas, our weekend guide is actually not that festive. Of course if you want to check out all the Christmas things going on you’ll want to head to our Christmas page, if however you want a break before we go all-out in the next couple of weeks then we have Mexican brunches, Malaysian breakfasts and classic pub grub. Of course there is the 17th annual SantaCon taking place on Saturday – well, we had to throw in a few hundred Santas somewhere…

Skip Garden

Fire Feast

The Skip Garden (also known as the garden of 1000 hands) will be hosting a fire feast which will bring their garden alive with light. Fires and rum chai will keep you toasty, whilst you watch live music and eat the likes of pizzas from the wood burning oven, stews, horse chestnuts and s’mores.
Friday 9th December

Where: Skip Garden, Tapper Walk, Kings Cross, N1C 4AQ

Santa Flash Mob

What’s more festive than hundreds of Santas in full red and white gear, marching through the city? Good job then that SantaCon is back this year – it’s basically one big Santa-themed pub crawl, completely ‘non-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-sensical’. The routes will be announced on Facebook so dig out your finery, don your beard and prepare to hug, sing and drink your way through London en masse. It’s basically one big Where’s Wally.
Saturday 10th December

Where: Across London

Mexican Brunch

For one weekend and one weekend only, Pachamama’s brunch is turning Mexican. They’ve teamed up with Mezcal Amores to create cocktails which include Orange Cacao (mescal, orange blossom, cacao) and Mezcal Sours. Why? Because the team at Pachamama love mezcal and because it’s not as well- known as tequila which quite frankly is a shame. Accompanying dishes will include mezcal-buttered scallops, Mexican fried chicken waffle, rainbow cauliflower nachos with kale, chilli and a herby cheese sauce and Carne asada rib of beef with tortillas, guacamole and three salsas. It’s going to be a-mez-ing… yes we went there.
Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December

Where: 18 Thayer Street, Marylebone, W1U 3JY

East Village Market

Hygge Inspired Christmas Market

Hygge, hygge, hygge. This year has been the year of hygge, so it’s only fitting that the annual East Village Christmas Makers Market is focusing on all things warm and cosy this time around. Free to enter and open all weekend, visitors can browse fashion, interiors, gifts and comfort food from artisanal sellers. Visit on Sunday and anyone with a beard can get the hipster treatment and pimp their beards for free. Fuzz free? Book a spot at the Q&A with Danish actress and Hygge expert Marie Tourell Søderberg and learn how to hygge at home.
Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December

Where: 20 Victory Parade, Stratford, E15 2ER

Paradise Garage

Disco Brunch

You could mope about the house on a Sunday lamenting that you have to go back to work tomorrow, or you could party… it is the festive season after all. Bethnal Green favourite, Paradise Garage are stepping up their brunch game by joining forces with The Gentlemen’s Academy for their disco brunch. Starting at 1:30pm (which gives you plenty of time for a hungover lie in/the gym/box sets) the afternoon will include a brunch feast, plenty of cocktails and tunes from new DJs. #SundayFunday.
Sunday 11th December

Where: 254 Paradise Row, Bethnal Green, E2 9LE

Chi Kitchen

Ping Coombes' Breakfast Club

On the second Sunday of every month, Masterchef Champion Ping Coombes hosts a breakfast club at Chi Kitchen on Oxford Street. And what is it on Sunday? Oh, it’s the second Sunday of the month. Hurrah! The breakfast club will be serving up a four course Malaysian feast with a festive twist. Dishes include Ping’s chicken char siu wonton noodles, Malaysian Karipap with mint and cucumber raita and for pudding a banana and condense milk shake. There’s also unlimited tea and coffee, to get you fuelled up to face the Christmas shoppers on Oxford Street.

Bean Bag Cinema

Your Night In, Out

Finish your weekend with a night out. Probably not the words you really want to hear. Except this isn’t your ordinary night out. This is the Bean Bag Cinema at Metro in Clapham. Leave the comfort of your sofa for the comfort of massive bean bag and snuggle down to watch Miracle on 34 Street, with mulled wine and canapes. The perfect end to the weekend.
