The Handbook
The Handbook

Sigh, we’re not even a week into September and we’ve already had enough of the cold chill that’s begun lingering in the air. In an attempt to ditch the dreary British weather (despite having used all of my holiday until January), here I am daydreaming about where I’d like to head for some winter sun…

Fasano, Rio De Janeiro

Infinity pool? Check. Spectacular views? Check. Dreamy weather? Triple check! We’re swanning off to Rio to top-up our dwindling tan and skipping by Fasano’s Rio De Janeiro branch. Famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Christ the Redeemer statue and vibrant culture, Rio de Janeiro is the perfect go-to spot to get your sun fix this chilly season. Oh, and if you’re looking for killer views, hop on one of the Sugarloaf cable cars and see just beautiful the city really is…

Where: Avenida Viera Souto, 80 - Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro

Royal Mansour, Marrakech

Saharan dunes, ancient traditions and fragrant food, Morocco brings to life a side of Africa you’ve never seen. Stroll through the cobbled alleys, explore the aromatic markets, and soak up the bustling atmosphere. A perfect spot to stay is the Royal Mansour in Marrakech, and royal it is! Located just a short walk from the famous Jemaa El Fna, the hotel encompasses elements of tradition and modernity. The rooms have been replaced by lavish riads, the corridors by whirling alleyways, and the attention to detail is immaculate. I know where I’m going to be whizzing off to…

Where: Rue Abou El Abbas Sebti, 40 000, Marrakech, Morocco

Amanera, Domincan Republic

With seas as crystal clear as, well, a crystal, the Dominican Republic should certainly be on your bucket list this winter. Plus, the average annual temperature hovers around 25°C which is miles hotter than it’s going to be here in November… Surrounded by mountains and overlooking a mile-long beach, our favourite hotel has to be the sleek Amanera. Channel your inner adventurer by paddle boarding along the freshwater lagoon, kite surf on the open waters, and see if you can spot a Humpback whale…

Where: Auto. 5 Carretera Rio San Juan - Cabrera Rio San Juan, Republica Dominicana C.P. 33300

Iniala Beach House, Thailand

Filled with backpackers, dreamy beaches, and sometimes questionable cuisine (I mean, I’m all for a Thai red curry but I’ll have to pass on the fried crickets and duck beaks). That being said, Thailand is a prime spot to catch some rays while the rest of us are drowning our sorrows in rainy ol’ London. One spot we’re lusting over is Iniala Beach House in Phuket, more specifically the Iniala Penthouse, offering views of the Andaman sea and the gleaming rooftops of Iniala. And, don’t even get me started on their swimming pool which makes its way through the villa itself…

Where: Khok Kloi, Takua Thung District, Phang-nga 82140, Thailand

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Dubai

Name a more iconic hotel, I’ll wait. If we’re sat here lusting over places we’re awaiting an invite for, then Burj Al Arab Jumeirah would be high on the list. It’s iconic sail-shaped silhouette never fails to impress, a bit like Dubai’s flawless weather. Dubai itself is known for its luxury shopping, immaculate architecture, and it’s where money seems to grow on trees…

Where: Jumeirah Street, Dubai

Iberostar Grand Hotel Salomé, Tenerife

Picture this: you’re lying on a sun bed, scrolling The Handbook’s latest newsletter, grazing on tapas with a cocktail in hand. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Well, if you’re looking for somewhere a little closer to home then why not explore the largest of the Canary Islands: Tenerife. Our go-to hotel over in Tenerife hands-down is Iberostar Grand Hotel Salomé, and we can guarantee you won’t find any rogue kids running riot around the pool, because it’s an adults-only boutique hotel. Ahhhh, perfect.

Where: Londres, 15 38660, Costa Adeje, Tenerife

Sunset Cottages, Florida

Get packing your bags because we’re headed to Florida, baby!

Everyday feels like spring break when you’re in Florida and it certainly feels like it at Sunset Key Cottages. Nuzzled on an exclusive 27-acre island, Sunset Key Cottages will leave you feeling like you’ve entered the tropics (and rightly so, because it’s gonna be a whole lot hotter than it is in the UK). Stroll along the sandy beaches, indulge in a revitalising spa treatment, or challenge your pals to a game of good ol’ tennis.

Where: 245 Front Street, Key West, Florida 33040

St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, Maldives

Fancy having your own private island for the week? Um, yes please! Located in the Dhaalu Atoll, the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is as dreamy as it sounds. Despite being known as the land of the honeymoon, this resort is perfect for families too. Stroll along the sun-kissed beaches or take a plunge in your very own sparkling pool. Oh, and one last thing, can I come with you?!
