Emma Corrin and Clive Owen Lead New Whodunnit A Murder At The End Of The World
One of our most anticipated shows of the year finally releases tomorrow: mystery drama A Murder at the End of the World sees The Crown and Lady Chatterley’s Lover star Emma Corrin play an amateur sleuth who finds herself way over her head.
Set to arrive on Disney+, the seven-part mini-series also stars Children of Men and American Crime Story’s Clive Owen as a mysterious and reclusive billionaire whose idyllic retreat is interrupted by a gruesome murder—one that Darby (Corrin) will have to solve.
What is A Murder At The End of the World about?
Originally slated to arrive in August but delayed by the actors’ strike, A Murder at the End of the World is an original new whodunnit series created by writers Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, best known for their work on the mystery drama The OA. Our protagonist is Darby Hart, played by Corrin, who is something of a “Gen Z” detective: hacking and being a tech-wizz are at the centre of her crime-solving repertoire rather than fingerprinting. She’s pretty confident in her abilities that she’s put to good use as an amateur sleuth, but when she’s invited out of the blue to a billionaire’s retreat, she finds herself seriously put to the test.
Said billionaire is played by Owen, and is currently known as “Andy”. He’s a tech genius (much like Edward Norton in Glass Onion) and rather reclusive. His luxury snowy retreat far from civilisation attracts Darby and eight other guests to come and stay for some R&R, but this is quickly interrupted when one of the party drops dead. Of course, Darby leaps to investigate but soon finds that unveiling the truth will be harder than she would hope. There are conflicting interests and an apparent conspiracy working against her, and soon Darby’s own life is on the line.
Is there a trailer?
FX finally gave us a good glimpse of the series in an official trailer, which starts with shots of Andy’s retreat in a vast nothingness of snow before showing Darby waking on the floor. “I sometimes wonder, would it have been better not to go?” she narrates over flashes of puzzling imagery- documents on fire, a masked figure and someone apparently drowning.
We also get a look at her relationship with someone who is presumably her boyfriend, and Andy himself asks “Why is it wherever you go, death follows?” The series is also set to star Marling, Harris Dickinson (Where The Crawdads Sing), Alive Braga (Queen of the South) and Joan Chen (Twin Peaks).
Is there a release date?
A Murder at the End of the World releases 14th November on Disney+.
