Don’t worry about being neat with this, the softer and more blurred, the better.

Step 1: Soft outline

First, take a neutral matte lip liner. I’m using the Makeup by Mario Sculpting Lip Pencil in Tan, which is the perfect shade for creating that natural-looking definition.

Slightly overline the lips using the side of the pencil, rather than the tip, to avoid creating a sharp or obvious edge. The key to this trend is that nothing should look too precise.

Then, use the handy brush on the other end of the pencil to gently diffuse the liner into the lips. Don’t worry about being neat with this, the softer and more blurred, the better.

Step 2. Add depth

Next, take a slightly deeper lip liner. I’m using Max Factor Lip Shader in Toasted Cinnamon, concentrating the colour on the Cupid’s bow and through the centre of the lower lip. Apply this underneath the first liner, bringing it only towards the middle of the lips rather than extending it beyond your natural lip line. This creates subtle dimension without looking overly contoured.

Again, soften everything with your lip brush, or simply press the colour in with your fingertip. You want the two shades to melt seamlessly into one another.

Step 3. Flushed effect
