From ‘80s-inspired cocktail dresses and seriously extra party shoes to fun pyjama sets and Oscar-worthy high-octane gowns, SS26’s most fabulous trend just entered the chat. Red carpet season might be over, but if you’re looking for something fun for this summer’s weddings and events, feathers might just be the ticket.

Feathers used to feel a bit naff – a whiff of the hen party about them. But of late, they’ve had a cool-girl rebrand thanks to a slew of designers working them into pieces as trims and embellishments. And it’s not been missed on the red carpet or amongst celebrity fashion too, given its old-school glamour feel.

Woman-of-the-moment Olivia Dean is no stranger to the look; case in point, she recently took to the stage in an outrageously good, pale blue David Koma beauty. Suddenly, feathers feel sexy, fun, sophisticated.

One name leading the way is 16Arlington, who have added pretty plumes to bejewelled wrap skirts and ‘60s-inspired silhouettes – such a lovely option for a summer wedding guest look. Then there is Oséree and their ultimate party-girl frocks – asymmetrical blue midis or chocolate brown swing dresses that feel high-octane and practically guarantee a fun night out. On the high street, we’ve bookmarked Mango’s limited-edition slinky slip dress covered in a wispy waterfall of feathers. Pair it with gold heels and statement earrings for a ‘90s feel.

For something a little less frou-frou, a feather-trimmed shoe or bag is a more diluted way to work the trend, especially when paired with something low-key like baggy denim and a cute cardigan. Paris Texas’ Lidia satin mules are giving Carrie Bradshaw vibes, but Free People has some cute – and far more affordable – options too.

Asuit makes feather trims feel a little more serious, but still on the right side of fun.
