In need of some romantic escapism to stream, but can’t wait for Bridgerton? Disney+’s just released The Greatest Hits can be your remedy for that.

Bohemian Rhapsody and The Ipcress File star Lucy Boynton plays Harriet, a woman mourning the loss of her boyfriend who finds that she can literally travel back in time when she listens to her favourite songs associated with him. When she meets David (Justin H. Min), a DJ dealing with his own sense of grief, she wonders if she can move on with her life and find new happiness.

What is The Greatest Hits about?

‌Harriet Gibbons (Boynton) has spent the last two years stuck in a limbo, mourning the loss of her boyfriend Max (newly cast Superman actor David Corenswet ). Max died in a car accident, and from the painful event lingers in Harriet’s mind, apparently manifesting itself in a strange ability: to be able to take herself back in time when she listens to a piece of music that she closely associates with her time with Max. Everyone knows music conjure up memories, but in this case it’s literal, with the present day Harriet appearing to have a seizure to everyone else, but the time travelling Harriet to be firmly, tangibly in the past and talking to Max. She tries to do what everyone would, and attempts to save Max, but is unable to each time. The trips have barely given her any comfort, and Harriet makes an effort to avoid those emotionally powerful songs whenever she can.

In the present, Harriet continues through life unable to break out of this unfortunate cycle of feelings, but a possible new path to happiness comes in the form of David Park, who’s a DJ and obviously very invested in music himself. David is trying to make sense of his grief following the deaths of his parents, and so there’s the potential for a spark of connection between the two. They’re drawn together also by a love of vinyl, old t-shirts and each other’s charming company, but Harriet of course is still attached to Max, and the flashback trips make things difficult. The questions that swirl in her mind- “What if I had never met Max? Could I still save him?”- cloud a blossoming new relationship, and dispelling doubts won’t be easy.

What else do I know, and where can I watch?

The Greatest Hits also stars Austin Crute (Booksmart), Retta (Parks and Recreation), Nelly Furtado (A Date with Miss Fortune) as herself and Clementine Creevy (Transparent.) You can stream the film now on Disney+.
