Anne Hathaway’s New Rom-Com The Idea Of You Is Out Today

Rom-coms are back, and how. After starring in the thriller film Mother’s Instinct that released last month, Anne Hathaway is returning to our screens today – and we couldn’t be happier about it.
In the film, the star plays a divorced mother in her mid-40s, who falls for and strikes up a relationship with the leader of one of the biggest bands on the planet, played by Mary and George‘s Nicholas Galitzine.
What is The Idea of You about?
Based on the book of the same name by Robinne Lee, The Idea of You follows Solène, a single mum and a divorcee who separated from her husband after he left her for a younger woman. She now spends her days maintaining the swish art gallery that she owns and raising her teenage kids. Her daughter, Izzy, is keen to go to the Coachella festival in the spring, and Solène agrees to go with her. One of the hottest acts performing is August Moon, a boy band that’s one of the most successful in the world, with legions of fans and a lead singer in British popstar Hayes Campbell. By chance, Solène and Hayes end up crossing paths, with both finding a mutual attraction to each other, and it’s not long before they’ve started something of a fling. But of course, in true rom-com fashion, it’s not all plain sailing, and their quiet affair comes against their lives and responsibilities.

What else does the trailer reveal?
The trailer kicks off with Solène and Hayes in the midst of their romance, sat by a pool and asked by a friend how they met- “We met at… Coachella”, replies Solène, seemingly slightly embarrassed by the question. The attention of being with a world-famous popstar doesn’t disappear, with paparazzi taking a keen interest in the relationship and following the couple to Solène’s gallery, as Hayes inquires about the art. When Hayes ponders one of the artworks and asks, “What do you feel when you look at it?” she answers “Everything”. As they share a kiss, Solène worries that she’s too old for her new beau, but she’s simply unable to keep her mind off him, and neither is he able to forget her. Both are aware of the pressures that fame and “what other people think” will bring, particularly when Solène spots a photo of them with an unflattering headline – will their love for each other win out in the end?
