Sydney Sweeney And Amanda Seyfried Star In The Housemaid

There have certainly been some big films out this year, and psychological thrillers are everywhere. Next up is The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You) and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout), an adaptation from a book of the same name. The film follows a young woman who gets a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple- and discovers they’re hiding more secrets than she could imagine.
What is The Housemaid about?
Freida McFadden’s original novel, The Housemaid, was released back in 2022 and became a best-seller. This film adaptation is being directed by Paul Feig, who previously was behind the camera on Bridesmaids and A Simple Favour, and began shooting earlier this year. Sweeney plays Millie, a woman struggling to get by in life and in need of a lucky break. She gets one, seemingly, when she’s hired as the housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (played by Brandon Skelnar). So far, so good, with the prospect of working in a fancy house in an affluent neighbourhood certainly being an appeal.

But after Millie accepts the job, she’ll find that the job isn’t quite as simple as it might seem, and so begins a domestic thriller keeping our protagonist on her toes and with her eyes open. In the book, it becomes apparent to Millie that neither Nina nor Andrew seem to be normal people, and not just because of their wealth- they appear to have deep-seated problems, and odd relationships with their children and the rest of their family.
They’re clearly hiding things, secrets, from her and the outside world, and there’s an air of mistrust and paranoia. While we won’t know until the film comes out how closely it follows the novel, you get the idea that this is going to be an interesting ride.

What else do we know, and when does the film release?
Italian actor Michele Morrone (365 Days) is also set to be in the film. The current scheduled release date is 19th December.
