The Best Films Coming In 2025
The new year is here, and after 2024 gave us some great movies, there’s plenty more to come in 2025. In just a few weeks, Bridget Jones will be back on our screens, and this year will also see the long-awaited sequel to the British horror film 28 Days Later with Cillian Murphy and Jodie Comer.
Timothee Chalamet’s Bob Dylan film also arrives soon, along with Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s Robert Pattinson starring Mickey 17. Here’s everything you need to watch:
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy
After a nine-year wait, Bridget Jones returns in Mad About The Boy, continuing her story as she navigates life as a widow (sadly Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, is no longer with us) and single mother. Now in her 50s, she’s looking for a new lease on life, working as a screenwriter and set to reenter the dating scene – enter Roxster (Leo Woodall), who is twenty years younger. Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) is also back in the picture, and Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jim Broadbent also star.

A Complete Unknown
Timothee Chalamet plays Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, one of the most anticipated biopics in recent years. Releasing in the UK in January, it follows Dylan in the mid-60s, as he decides to make the jump to using electric instruments in his music and performances. The changeover caused controversy among his fans, with criticisms of selling out and abandoning what initially made him popular, despite the fact some of his best work was still to come. Elle Fanning and Edward Norton play Dylan’s girlfriend Sylvie and manager Pete Seeger, respectively, while Monica Barbaro plays Joan Baez and Boyd Holbrook plays Johnny Cash.

Presence
Steven Soderberg, the filmmaker behind The Ocean’s trilogy, Logan Luckyand Erin Brockovich, directs this psychological thriller starring Lucy Liu. The creepy premise sees a family move into a new house, but while they’re settling in begin to experience a strange presence- and realise they’re not alone. What makes this ghost story unique, though, is that it’s told from the perspective of the spirit lingering in the house itself, and it’s received positive reviews from critics. Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan and Callina Liang also star.

Mickey 17
Believe it or not, it’s been nearly six years since Parasite debuted and became the first foreign language Best Picture winner, and now Bong Joon-Ho is back with his next film, Mickey 17. Starring Robert Pattinson, it focuses on Mickey Barnes, who, bored of Earth, decides to sign up to a company where he’ll be employed as “expendable” to assist in colonising new planets. Whenever he dies in the harsh planetary conditions, a new clone body regenerates with the old one’s memories. One of the clones, Mickey 17, survives an event that should’ve killed him, resulting in two Mickeys existing at the same time, creating a real headache of problems.

Snow White
The latest of Disney’s live-action/CGI remakes, this reimagining of the company’s first feature-length animated film arrives in the summer. West Side Story star Rachel Zegler steps into the role of the young Snow White alongside Gal Gadot as the villainous Evil Queen. Everyone’s familiar with the story of the young princess, her scheming stepmother and the seven dwarves Snow White befriends along the way, though Disney has indicated the fairy tale will be expanded with new plot points and characters. Greta Gerwig co-writes the script, with Andrew Burnap playing Jonathan (apparently a new take on the prince) and Patrick Page voices the Magic Mirror.

28 Years Later
Set thirty years after the virus outbreak that swept Britain in the original 28 Days Later, the long-awaited sequel sees Danny Boyle once again in the director’s chair, and Cillian Murphy back as Jim. But the Oscar-winning actor isn’t the main focus this time: Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson play two survivors trying to stay alive in the still desolate world destroyed by the rage virus and infected humans. Plot details are scarce, but while the original followed humanity collapsing, this film will explore what society has become since. Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell and Erin Kellyman also star in what could be the most terrifying film of the year.

F1
Taking advantage of the surge of interest in the sport, F1 stars Brad Pitt as a Formula One driver, Sonny Hayes, who had his heyday in the 90s, which was cut short by a serious crash. Retiring from F1, he’s since dabbled in other areas and moved on in life, but that doesn’t stop him being asked to come back by a Formula One team owner (played by Javier Bardem). Young racing prodigy Joshua Pearce is in need of a mentor and coach, and Sonny has the experience needed to mould him into a star, but returning to the risky sport won’t be easy for the retired driver. The cast also stars Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies, with real-life racers like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen set to make an appearance.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
The third instalment in the hugely entertaining Knives Out series, Wake Up Dead Man stars Daniel Craig, once again playing detective Benoit Blanc, who’s once again investigating a perplexing mystery. Director and writer Rian Johnson hasn’t revealed where Blanc is this time after the New England mansion and Greek private island settings of the last films, nor what exactly the plot is. But we do know it’ll have another all-star cast, with Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, Andrew Scott, Daryl McCormack, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny and Thomas Haden Church all starring alongside Craig.

Avatar: Fire and Ash
The third Avatar film is set to release later this year, with James Cameron having filmed it back to back with the second avoiding the long gap between that one and the original. Avatar: Fire and Ash see the return of actors like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, as well as newcomers like David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin. The often enigmatic director hasn’t revealed much about his plans for this film, but it’ll continue the story of the Sully family, and explore the mysterious Ash People, with more underwater action. It’s likely to also be darker and more violent than the previous entries- but that likely won’t stop it being a box office smash.
