We always try to spot under-the-radar films that aren’t the ones getting tons of attention, and one of those that’s releasing this year is The Uninvited. The comedy drama stars two of TV’s most talked about actors, Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus) in a story about the arrival of an elderly woman to a house, who claims the property is really hers. Also starring Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat), it’s set to release in the UK next month. Here’s all we know:

What is The Uninvited about?

The Haunting of Hill House’s Elizabeth Reaser stars in the central role of Rose, a renowned stage actress married to Sammy (Goggins). The two live an idyllic life in the Hollywood Hills, and though Rose is somewhat reluctant, despite having a party which is designed to impress a celebrity client, Gerald, played by Sewell. The party is already set to be a bumpy affair when Gerald arrives at their house high on cocaine, and it gets complicated when an old woman suddenly and unexpectedly knocks on the door. The elderly woman is Helen, who claims that she owns the house and lives there, much to the bemusement of Rose and Sammy.

But Helen and Gerald are not the only guests who will prove tricky – also present at this party is Lucian (played by Pascal), another Hollywood star who is a former lover of Rose’s. The young and innocent Delia, described as an ingénue and played by Eva De Dominci, is another guest during the evening. All these people and elements come together in a way that will make Rose question her cushy life and relationship to her husband. The elderly Helen, for example, seems to know a surprising amount about Rose, despite having apparently never met, and there’s much in her past and future that is waiting to come out, whether Rose knows it or not. Soon, this small party that Rose and Sammy are hosting becomes filled with tension and suspicion in a comedy of errors about unfulfilled dreams.

What else do we know?

The film first premiered at the South by Southwest film festival, and has received warm reviews from critics, singling out the performances, including Pascal and Goggins. The Uninvited is set to arrive in UK cinemas on 8th May.
