Comedy-drama series The White Lotus was a smash hit when the first season released back in 2021 and so a season 2 was inevitable- the series also just picked up several Emmy awards. HBO has now finally indulged us with the first trailer and details releasing ahead of the next instalment.

While the first season was set in Hawaii (and was called The White Lotus: Hawaii), the second is set in Sicily. The White Lotus: Sicily is set to arrive on HBO in October, though it’s not certain when it’ll arrive on Sky and NOW in Britain.

The series, if you don’t know, focuses on the fictional White Lotus Luxury Resort chain, which is mired by dysfunctional management and staff. The show stars Murray Bartlett as Armond, the manager of the White Lotus resort, Connie Briton as Nicole Mossbacher, Chief Financial Officer of a search engine company, Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid, seeking self discovery and inner peace at the resort, and Alexandria Daddario as journalist Rachel Patton.

Paradise feels distinctly uncomfortable...

The first season focused on the exploits of the staff and guests of the resort, and was a lens into the life of wealthy yet unhappy people. It also tackles difficult issues like race, privilege and consent, and makes a supposed paradise feel distinctly uncomfortable. There’s also the overhanging central mystery of who has been killed at the resort, which is glimpsed at the beginning and then revealed over the course of the season’s six episodes.

So, what will the second season have in store for us? Well, apart from the Sicily setting, the other big piece is news is that Jennifer Coolidge is expected to be the only major cast member from the first season to return, reprising her role as socialiate Tanya McQuoid. However, there’s still set to be a great cast of characters: There’s the Di Grassos, a family of Italian Americans who arrive in Sicily to see their ancestral homeland, played by The Sopranos actor Michael Imperioli, Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham and The Order’s Adam DiMarco.

There’s other names like Aubrey Plaza, who’s starring as Harper Spiller and Will Sharp as Ethan Spiller, Tom Hollander as Quentin, and Theo James as Cameron Babcock. The second season, like the first, will examine and send up stereotypes and prejudices, like the perception that many Americans have of Sicily being dominated by the Mafia. The first trailer was released just recently, and you can watch it below.
