The White Lotus Season 2 was one of HBO’s best shows in the past year, even with competition from other shows from the network like House of Dragon and The Last of Us. Unsurprisingly given how well the show did critically and with viewers, The White Lotus Season 3 is already well into development, having been confirmed to be renewed only weeks after Season 2 premiered. While there’s not many details out there yet about the follow-up, the show’s creators have released some info about what you can expect from the darkly satirical anthology.

The first season of The White Lotus that aired back in the summer of 2021 might’ve been originally planned as a limited miniseries, but it’s since snowballed into one of HBO’s most lauded and talked about shows. Season 1 was set at the fictional White Lotus resort in Hawaii, and skewered the rich and powerful as well as class divides and racial politics in America. Season 2 meanwhile headed to Europe and was set in Sicily, again making some commentary on the lives of the rich but also being themed more around relationships, sex and betrayal. While both seasons had an overhanging mystery of unidentified dead bodies, both were really about the interactions between the various resort guests.

Season 3 looks to continue that trend, and once again has changed locations, now set to be taking the action to Thailand. Filming has yet to begin, but locations are being scoped out and plotlines being finalised. Both previous seasons were shot partly at Four Seasons resorts, and as Thailand has several, it seems likely it’ll continue to serve as the backdrop. The series’ head honcho, Mike White, said following the Season 2 finale that the next season would likely be set in Asia, and will focus on death as well as Eastern spirituality and religion.

There’s no casting that’s been announced yet, and (spoilers for Season 2) Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya, the only character to cross from Season 1 to 2, is pretty unlikely to return, given she was revealed to have drowned in S2’s last minutes.

Might one of the characters from Sicily, like Audrey Plaza’s Harper or fan favourite Lucia (Simona Tabasco) reappear in Thailand in a similar way?
