Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me a Back to the Future musical is making a beeline for the West End?
Yes. Yes, we are. Next Spring you’ll be traveling back in time as your favourite childhood film Back to the Future arrives at London’s glorious West End.
Like all major Hollywood blockbusters, the 1980s classic Back to the Future has been given a twenty-first century makeover in the form of a musical, and will land at the Adelphi Theatre in The Strand next May.
After premiering in Manchester earlier this year, before the performances were cancelled to the pandemic, the Back to the Future musical was a huge, critical success. Now, scheduled to arrive 14th May 2021, you can book your tickets to see your favourite childhood movie come to life on the big West End stage, flashing lights and time-travel included.
Adapted from the original movie’s co-writers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, the musical will see Marty McFly thrusted back in time to 1955 in a rather dodgy looking time machine built by none other than flamboyant scientist Doc Brown. Of course if you’ve seen the original adventure film, you’ll know it wasn’t quite as simple as simply exploring the past. Nope, Marty and Doc Brown disrupted the course of history and now Marty must muster up the courage to fix the present and somehow get him back to the future…
Although it follows the original narrative, as it’s a West End production you’ll find yourself singing along with the stars on stage to the catchy refrains. The production will feature original music by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri (Avengers: Endgame) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror).
The West End production was disclosed in a short promotional advert starring Christopher Lloyd. Yep, the guy who played the original Emmet ‘Doc’ Brown in the 80s classic. So it’s a pretty big deal.
Buckle in for a one way ticket in time-travelling DeLorean car…
