Vatavaran

Nestled on Knightsbridge’s iconic Beauchamp Place, Vatavaran is a four-storey celebration of modern Indian fine dining, created by Michelin-starred chef Rohit Ghai and restaurateur Abhishake Sangwan. Named after the Hindi word for “atmosphere,” the restaurant draws deep inspiration from the majesty of the Himalayas; offering a refined, fire-led culinary experience that elevates India’s regional flavours.

Vatavaran’s signature lies in its use of Sigri cooking, open-flame techniques that spotlight seasonal ingredients and bold, elemental spices. From Lamb Osso Bucco Biryani to Sea Bass Recheado and the indulgent Mango Malai Cheesecake, each dish is crafted with contemporary flair and deep-rooted tradition. The interiors mirror this ethos: earthy, elegant, and serene. Designed to evoke a sense of ascent through mountainous terrain.

At its peak of the townhouse sits Shikhar, the members bar and cocktail lounge offering celestial cocktails and immersive bites. It’s the crowning jewel of a venue that redefines Indian fine dining in London.

Q&A

Don't miss...

The Himalayan theme runs through the interiors of the restaurant set across four thoughtfully designed levels conceptualised by Neha Beriwala. Vatavaran translates to“atmosphere” in Sanskrit. Beginning with a bar at the ground floor entrance “Valley Streams” to the mezzanine “Mountain ridges”, first floor “Forests” and the top floor “Summit” with the Shikhar Bar, a constellation-themed cocktail bar newly opened in June. Each area has a distinct feel and is beautifully designed to create a journey.

3 things to try when you’re there

  1. Lamb Osso Bucco Biryani:A slow-cooked, deeply aromatic signature dish that combines melt-in-your-mouth lamb shanks with saffron rice and rich biryani spices, Vatavaran’s elevated take on a classic, packed with soul and finesse.
  2. Butter Chicken with Kashmiri Chilli: An elevated version of the nation’s favourite, this dish balances smoky depth, creamy richness, and gentle heat from Kashmiri chillies, all brought together with vine-ripened tomatoes for a bold, luxurious finish.
  3. Cocktail Trolley Experience at Shikhar: An immersive bar moment like no other: sip on constellation-themed cocktails like the Surya (kokum-infused tequila, passionfruit and chilli) or Rohini (Desi Daru Alphonso vodka), all mixed tableside with theatrical flair and rare infusions
