12 Things To Do This Heatwave Weekend

It’s set to be scorching this weekend. Make sure you prepare with the best of London’s outdoorsy – or, better still, air conned – events. Expect the weekend to be packed out with everything from food festivals and music experiences to an adorable Miffy themed pop-up.

Travel around the world at this foodie festival

If you’re looking to avoid the airport chaos at the moment but still want to experience the best of the travelling experience through food, you’ll want to book in for the National Geographic Traveller Food Festival.

Returning to the Business Design Centre, Islington, the foodie festival will bring some of the biggest names in the food industry together for demonstrations, talks and tutorials. Look forward to seeing culinary experts like Andi Oliver, Jay Rayner, Grace Dent, Aldo Zilli, Santosh Shah, Jack Stein, Ping Coombes, Fuchsia Dunlop and José Pizarro sharing their secrets of the kitchen. As well as talks from cookbook authors and food writers, including Mimi Aye, Romy Gill, Ben Tish, Ixta Belfrage, Zuza Zak and Jp McMahon.

You’ll be able to wander from country to country, sampling food and drink offerings, exploring masterclasses and immersive international experiences. You’ll travel from sandy beaches in Greece to small towns in Wale, the Tuscan mountains in Italy to rural villages in Cyprus.

Plus, as a Handbook reader, you can get £5 off your ticket purchases when using the code ‘THEHANDBOOK’*.

Channel your inner yogi with the Meroula method

Do you ever find yourself at a workout class, and either work far too hard and burn yourself out, or not enough that you don’t feel challenged? Ex- professional ballerina Meroula Hondrou struggled to find a class that combined her love for yoga with more targeted exercises- and so the Meroula Method was born!

The class is broken down into 3 sections – a fiery vinyasa flow before moving on to the sculpting section – involving Pilates, strength work training and power abs. Once you’ve sweated and burned in places you didn’t know existed the class finishes with a stretch and a relaxation meditation.

Let’s face it, unless you have air conditioning, London in the heat isn’t great. It’s stuffy, it’s sweaty and gets so bad that the roads start melting. So why not escape the city and swap it for sea views, sand and a cocktail or two on the beach.

To offer you some inspiration, we’ve rounded up the eight best beaches near London, from trendy Margate to Kent’s sandy Broadstairs, oyster favourite Whitstable to quaint seaside resort town Littlehampton.
