When Disney+’s Pam & Tommy released earlier this year, there was some controversy on how it handled Pamela Anderson and her story – not least from the actress herself. At the time, the star announced that she had a documentary with her own approval in the works, that would tell things from her perspective – and now Netflix has finally released details for the docufilm, titled Pamela: A Love Story, and is set to release next month. Can’t wait? Check out our list of Best Netflix documentaries or Culture Section for more inspo.
The Pamela Anderson documentary will be just under 2 hours in length and will be one film as opposed to being in separate parts. It’ll tell Pamela Anderson’s life story and rise to fame, peaking with her time on Baywatch. The doc will also go into her difficult relationships, and dealing with the media and paparazzi and yes, the notorious sex tape and its fallout. But while the 90s may have been when Anderson was at her most talked about, Pamela will also discuss other areas of her life, including her relationship with her kids and writing her memoir, as well as recent projects like appearing as Roxie Hart in Chicago this year.
While filming Pamela: A Love Story, Anderson learned about Pam & Tommy being made and released, and we’ll see her reaction to the news and subsequent criticisms. Ultimately, the docufilm is about telling the Pamela Anderson story in her own words and from her perspective: “I was very hesitant, but looking back, I feel empowered… …and I hope that my story inspires people to have a great fucking time and not worry so much” Anderson said in an interview with Netflix’s news site Tudum. The doc is directed meanwhile by filmmaker Ryan White, who was behind documentaries like The Keepers, The Case Against 8, Ask Dr Ruth and Serena, which focused on the career of Serena Williams. Pamela will show what it’s like living as an icon and sex symbol whilst being one of the most famous and photographed women in the world, and the stresses and struggles that come with being in the public eye.
