It’s not every film that the names attached alone are enough to sell it, but After the Hunt is one that looks impossible to pass up. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, who was behind both Challengers and Queer last year, and starring Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri , it tells the story of a college professor.

Played by Roberts, the professor has to deal with the fallout of a colleague of hers being accused of a serious crime. Now available to watch in the UK, here’s all you need to know:

What is After the Hunt about?

The film is described as a thriller, and from the details released so far, it looks like it’ll be dealing with some complex themes, which, of course, the director is no stranger to. Alma Osson, played by Roberts, is a college professor whose stable career is rocked by a scandal that erupts at work, with a serious ripple effect. The young Maggie (Edeberi), a star pupil at the college, levels an accusation at Henrik (Garfield), one of the other professors at the college and a colleague and friend of Alma’s. Caught up in the fallout that Maggie’s accusation causes, Alma finds herself at a crossroads, both in her professional career and in her personal relationships. Furthermore, as she tries to deal with it all, she becomes concerned that a dark secret of her own may soon surface.

Not much more about the film has been released yet, though it’s tipped to be a “gripping psychological drama”, and after the directing flourishes of Challengers and Queer, we can’t wait to see what Guadagnino comes up with. Meanwhile, two other major actors attached to the project include Michael Stuhlbarg, known for his roles in Lincoln and Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, and Zodiac and Boys Don’t Cry star Chloe Sevigny.

When does the film release?

After the Hunt is now available to watch in cinemas, after which it’s set to be released on Amazon Prime.
