Despite London almost coming to a standstill last week, London Fashion Week went ahead. To say this was a memorable time to be British would be an understatement, but even amongst all the newsworthy events and the frantic pace of the city, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, nail technicians and models alike made headlines.

While many designers showcased mini tributes to Queen Elizabeth II and pared-down their shows as a mark of respect, inventive and inspiring beauty looks certainly didn’t go amiss. Catwalks were awash with colour, glistening skin, brushed-up brows, and standout hair. A visual feast and a much-needed excuse to feel uplifted.

Here are the hair and makeup looks that really caught our eye…

Pastel Eyes

Injecting colour on the waterline makes a refreshing change to creating playful eyes that pop, but ever so subtly. Purple tones seem to be the most popular, but a blue or green hue was also very much on the street style stars. Follow suit with a wash of neutral bronze shadow applied to the lid and a streak of vivid purple liner running through the waterline. And there you have your nod to summer.

High Gloss Skin

According to Rebecca Wordingham, lead make up designer at the Eftychia show, “the inspiration behind the look came from the rawness and effortlessness of 90’s Kate (Moss). A ramped-up version of translucent sheeny skin.” The skin glazing trend pioneered by the one and only Mrs Hayley Bieber, looks like it’s going nowhere soon.

Shimmer and Shine

Everything from face embellishment and jewel-encrusted designs to a full-face (and neck) of glitter, sparkle is high on the agenda but in a grown-up chic way. We’ve never been more prepared for party season.

Razor Brows

Taking brushed-up brows that little bit further (and braver!) Brows got an edgy update with makeup artists subtly creating slits in between brow hairs for a lifted look. Perhaps more of a look for Tik Tok creators than a meeting with your boss.

Power Fringes

Fringes are having a moment but not the type that transports you to your childhood days when your mum got a little too scissor happy. This however is the power fringe era. The style to be proud of, the hair that behaves, looks glossy and stands out for all the right reasons. You won’t find any wonky scissor lines in these fresh cuts.

Goth Nails

Usually reserved for colder months and darker days, black talons made quite a noise on the catwalks in contrast to the brighter shades that often complement our holiday wardrobe. We’re not convinced these are sun-lounger nails but would work better for summer city style.

Berry Lips

Far from the norm of a summer lip, lipstick shades took an unusual twist to the pastel palette we expect, even going as far as introducing the blackest black. Whilst the rest of the makeup was minimal, almost bare, it was obvious that lips will be doing all the talking come summer.

Slicked-back Hair

Get ready to stock up on strong hold gel. According to celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight, this look is all about “sculpted hairlines and chignons enfolded at the nape. Elegant yet strict and in complete control.” Sticky hair is about to go big!
