Hardworking Hand Creams

One good thing and perhaps arguably the only thing to come out of the pandemic is we have all become super diligent about washing our hands. But whether it’s hand wash or sanitiser, most formulas are very drying to the skin and strip them of their natural oils, which causes excess drying that often leads to peeling, soreness even tight fingers and hands.

Hand creams have upped their game harnessing the same powerful ingredients which are regularly found in skincare but formulated specifically to repair and soothe dry hands. The added bonus of regularly using a hand cream is it will also prolong your mani, keep your cuticles and nail beds strong and skin looking more youthful (hands are a true age giveaway). So, change your mindset from thinking hand cream is just for winter and instead add it to your daily skincare routine.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume Hands, £8.50

Specifically designed with sensitive skin in mind, this soothing hand cream is enriched with thermal spring water as well as niacinamide and glycerin to alleviate the discomfort of chapped, itchy, and sore hands without irritation. A French pharmacy favourite that keeps on giving.

Aveeno Skin Relief Very Dry Hands Cream, £5.03

Aveeno is synonymous with soothing and comforting very dry skin with its oat-based formulas that are hard to beat on rough hands and broken skin. This thick emollient will wrap your hands in a base that is slightly greasy but incredibly repairing after just a couple of uses.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment, £28

A hand cream that needs no introduction. This award-winner intensely moisturises for up to eight hours (hence the name) it’s not heavy nor greasy so great for sweaty palms, plus a little goes a long way.

NÉCESSAIRE The Hand Cream, £20

This slick US brand has been making waves in body care since it arrived in the UK last year. Packed to the brim with multi-vitamins and peptides which intensely hydrates and absorbs in seconds. And it looks rather chic on your deskside or bedside.

Upcircle Hand Cream, £19.99

This certified B Corp brand has sustainability at its core, but this doesn’t mean their formulations come secondary. Containing upcycled hibiscus flowers that are high in AHA acids helping boost cell renewal leaving you with softer, younger looking hands.

Nursem Hand Cream, £7.49

This no-frills formula was developed by a paediatric nurse who frequently came home from work with sore bleeding hands because of her non-stop washing with stripping detergents. Designed to immediately moisturise, soothe, and hydrate, this is no ordinary hand cream, but one that is well considered. And with every product sold, they give a month’s worth of free Nursem to a nurse or midwife. We couldn’t love this more!

Augustinus Bader The Hand Treatment, £43

There’s posh hand cream and then there’s Bader posh hand cream. Formulated with the same signature patented skin cell renewing complex (TFC8®) that can be found exclusively across Professor Bader’s products. This beautifully weighted cream is a great choice if age spots, pigmentation and ageing hands are your main skin concerns.
