Someone has to do it, so we’ve given ourselves the arduous task of sampling London’s best-rated in time for Shrove Tuesday – which happens to fall on Tuesday 13th February this year.

If you don’t fancy flipping your own at home, read on to reserve a table at one of our favourite pancake spots.

The best pancakes in London to try now

Sunday in Brooklyn

Sunday in Brooklyn is the place to go for authentic American-style pancakes. The popular Williamsburg brunch spot opened up in 2021 and quickly became a firm favourite amongst Londoners too thanks to their signature cocktails and thick pancakes.

We’ve never seen a stack of pancakes looking so puffed and perfected in London. Lathered in hazelnut maple praline and brown butter, you can opt for a single, double or even triple serving of them. We’d recommend sharing these as they don’t skimp on the portions here.

Langan’s pancakes are legendary. The Mayfair restaurant is renowned for serving up one of the best breakfasts in the city but it’s their pancakes that really keep guests coming back for more.

These small but fluffy pancakes are served with whipped cream and maple syrup. Truly indulgent but worth every bite.

Granger & Co.

Aussie group, Granger & Co. know a thing or two about breakfast. You’ll find them churning out some of the best pancakes in London, from their grilled cheese and green kimchi open sandwich to their freshly squeezed juices. No detail is missed.

But for pancakes, you’ll find a bite of their ‘hotcakes’. Rich with creamy ricotta, their hotcakes are topped with banana and warm honeycomb butter. You won’t be able to resist adding these to your order anytime you go here.

We can’t mention this restaurant joint without mentioning their Dutch pancakes either. Looking a little like a Yorkshire pud, you can go savoury with cheddar and goat cheese or sweet with apples and almonds.

There’s even a Pancake Day special featuring popcorn, chocolate-covered popping candy, sprinkles and popcorn-cookie dough-coated ice cream.

The Colony Grill, The Beaumont

Available every day for breakfast, Londoners can indulge in The Colony Grill’s thick and fluffy stacks of pancakes. Served in the popular, timeless New York-style grill, you can choose between your choice of toppings, from simple maple syrup and cured bacon to sour cherries and clotted cream.

On Shrove Tuesday, stacks of pancakes will be added to the lunch and dinner menus, with a savoury twist that’s sure to satisfy your tastebuds. The CFC pancakes feature Colony fried chicken with maple syrup or you can opt for the crêpes suzette, topped with Grand Marnier flambée and Papua New Guinea vanilla ice cream.

Kensington Crêperie

If you’re more of a crepe kind of person, we want to steer your attention towards Kensington Crêperie. Located on Exhibition Road, this humble cafe can be found serving up an array of sweet and savoury options.

Go savoury and have yours loaded with mushrooms, spinach, basil pesto, tomato and cheese in their Mediterranean special or go all out with their meatball, tomato sauce and cheese loaded option. Or, simply keep things traditional with just sugar and lemon – you can’t beat it.

With multiple London locations and more stretching all the way to Wales, Bill’s is the place to go for your pancake fix.

But with Pancake Day approaching, it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in more than one plate of pancakes. Yes, stack ’em up high, as Bill’s is offering an all-day bottomless pancake on the 13th of February. Guests are also given a choice between banana and butterscotch or the tasty blueberry crumble toppings.

If you’re after something a little different, look to Soho’s neighbourhood bar and restaurant, Nessa for a Shrove Tuesday taste sensation.

The modern bistro will be serving up a special buttermilk pancake loaded with rhubarb and custard, topped with a sprinkle of ginger crumble topping. Utterly sweet but totally moreish, this is one indulgent breakfast you’ll want to try.

Available every day on the breakfast menu, on Pancake Day it’ll also be served as a dessert special for lunch and dinner.
