best pancakes in london

London isn’t short of brunch spots serving up seriously great grub, but finding the best pancakes in London that are fluffy to the point of passing as pillows is no mean feat. Someone has to do it, so we’ve given ourselves the arduous task of sampling London’s best-rated in time for Shrove Tuesday – which happens to fall on Tuesday 21st February this year.

If you don’t fancy flipping your own at home, read on to reserve a table at one of our favourite pancake spots.

The best pancakes in London you should try now

Sunday in Brooklyn

Sunday in Brooklyn is the place to go for authentic American-style pancakes. The popular Williamsburg brunch spot opened up in 2021 and quickly became a firm favourite amongst Londoners too thanks to their signature cocktails and thick pancakes.

We’ve never seen a stack of pancakes looking so puffed and perfected in London. Lathered in hazelnut maple praline and brown butter, you can opt for a single, double or even triple serving of them. We’d recommend sharing these as they don’t skimp on the portions here.

Avobar

Matcha pancakes? Yes please.

A haven for Instagrammers, Avobar can be found serving up some of the best pancakes in London. Think three thick American-style pancakes combined with a shot of green matcha to help you add a little nutrition to your diet while tucking into the fluffy stack.

Try their savoury stack with your choice of house-cured salmon or grilled bacon, a side of turmeric poached egg and avo-butter, or go sweet with their pancakes topped with caramelised banana, maple syrup and avo-butter.

Where The Pancakes Are

Can you really say you’ve tried the best pancakes in London if you haven’t brunched at Where The Pancakes Are?

They have a pancake for every occasion, whether you’re dairy-free, wheat-free or fancy the most extravagant of toppings – we’re looking at you pulled beef pastrami… Go for their American-style pancakes and find a stack topped with everything from Welsh rarebit to rose harissa shakshouka.

We can’t mention this restaurant joint without mentioning their Dutch pancakes either. Looking a little like a Yorkshire pud, you can go savoury with Montgomery cheddar and goats cheese or sweet with apples and almonds.

In line with Shrove Tuesday, they are celebrating with Matilda The Musical by the Royal Shakespeare Company, offering limited-edition Popping Forest Pancakes. Think a stack piled with blackberry compote, drizzled chocolate, vanilla ice cream, marble shards and sprinkles of explosive chocolate-coated popping candy. Available 18th-24th Feb.
