It’s no secret we love a tablescape here at The Handbook. Obviously, there’s the social factor, but we believe that food almost tastes better when it’s set against a beautiful backdrop. Based at Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, every single piece is made right here in the UK. Alternatively, for the maximalists, Cabana is the label of the moment with its exquisite handmade Italian ceramics in bold, vibrant colours. Laden with Mediterranean-inspired recipes, their platters make perfect centrepieces for any table. Or even Hot Pottery, the London-based brand with a focus on unique and vibrant designs. If these don’t add fun to your table, nothing will. Then, of course, there is one of my favourite London stores, Lamp Ldn. Not only is this wonderful shop a haven for beautiful homewares, it also stocks the most stunning tableware, from dishes and servers to platters and plates.
If, like myself, your cooking skills aren’t on par with even the Masterchef rejects, then believe me, a pretty serving platter is your friend. While the food itself may not be gourmet quality, it will certainly look it. Even a bag a Wotsits will look delicious in one of these stunning dishes, so go on and treat yourself… and your table.
