Bows are having a moment right now, from ribbon-thin styles tied in the hair to fabulous ’80s-inspired party dresses and shoes covered in pretty detail. Featured in the collections of Simone Rocha, Chloé and Loewe this season, the trend has naturally hit the high street in a big way. Bows have been a favourite of feminine style for as long as we can remember, but this season they are back and we are loving the romantic mood they set amidst the tougher trends like puffers and chunky boots. Brands like Simone Rocha are leading the way, adding sweet finishing touches in the form of thin ribboned bows to ruffled skirts, pouffy taffeta dresses and the ends of plaited hair. For a more modest budget but something that still feels unique and special, Brit brand Sister Jane is all about the bows right now. Check out their satin Starlight dress with huge, statement sleeves cuffed with a plump silk bow. We’d style it up with platform heels and a sultry red lip for a great Valentine’s look.

Whilst the Sister Jane aesthetic is quite cutesy, bows can be sexy and elegant too. Case in point: ARKET’s bow-detail blouse in black, or RIXO‘s Sinatra dress with tie-bow shoulders and a high split.

If your style errs more on the side of subtle, you can’t go wrong with a plump velvety bow tied in the hair. Jennifer Behr’s hair accessories make great gifts, while ASOS, H&M and New Look provide a whole host of cute styles all for under £10.

Zoe Kravitz showcases big bow energy on the red carpet with this dusty pink dream of a dress by Saint Laurent. Take cues, without having to go full evening attire, by pairing a statement bow top with high-waist jeans and point-toe boots.

And if you’re worried that bows can look a little sickly sweet, toughen them up with denim or leather trousers and a chunkier shoe.
