Caroline Hirons – The Queen Of Skincare, Shares Her Skincare Secrets

If you want to know what beauty products work (or not!), you can always rely on Caroline Hirons, beauty blogger and skincare aesthetician, to give you her no-BS opinion and advice. Racking up 790K followers on Instagram, and founder of Skin Rocks (her own best-selling skincare line), we delve deeper into Caroline’s routine, asking everything from her go-to products to her definitive beauty dos and don’ts.
What beauty advice would you give your twenty-year-old self?
“Easy, don’t bake in the sun in the 1980s and wear an SPF. I did sun beds in the 80s – we all did. You thought you were being virtuous because you used Hawaiian Tropic number two. But my advice would be based around sun damage and SPF, because I did everything else. I was trained well by my mother.”

Are there any skincare mistakes you repeatedly see people making?
“Things like saving up your money to buy something you can’t really afford, and then not using it every day because you don’t want it to run out. That’s the big one. Use all your skincare. Use it up to the end of the product, and then decide whether it’s done something for you or not.”
What beauty products do you buy on repeat?
“These are my go-tos…”

Name the one skincare ingredient everyone should use in their routine?
“I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but some form of sun protection is your must-have because everything else is too tailored to skin type, tone and concern. The one thing we all have in common is that we need to protect our skin against the sun.”

What skincare trends are you excited about this year?
“I don’t follow trends. If you ask what the trends are, I don’t know, and I don’t care. I follow science. A trend is a trend – science is forever. Follow the science, not the trends. Just stick to the tried and tested rules”
What is your core philosophy on skincare?
“My philosophy has always remained the same, and that is that consistency is key. Consistency, routine, and double cleansing at night. Everything I started off by saying, I still say all day, every day.”

Are there any ingredients that you think are overrated?
“Hyaluronic acid. 15 years ago, we all raved about it because it was just basically separated out from a moisturiser. It was sold as an extra serum, and now it’s in everything. So I wouldn’t be spending hundreds of pounds on a hyaluronic acid serum – the biggest waste of money.”
Where do you shop for special beauty finds?
“Everywhere, but I shop more for unique finds while I’m abroad, as I know every beauty product in the UK market. When I’m on holiday, I take a large, reinforced case to fill with all the products I’ve never seen before and bring it home with me. I particularly love Ulta when I’m in the US.”
You’re the founding member of the Beauty Backed Trust. Tell us more.
“Beauty Backed was founded as a reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic to support individuals and businesses who were impacted. Fast-forward 6 years, and we now have The Grant Programme, which is available for people who need extra support and guidance whilst getting back on their feet.”
