If you’re feeling beach-body overwhelm, don’t panic. As someone who feels the pressure to look good on my hols, let me share my confidence-boosting swimwear…

Honestly, mum or not, go for the sexy one-piece, embrace bold colours, step out onto that beach in the teeny ‘kini.

Ashling, Contributing Style & Interiors Editor

I’ll begin by saying, this article is not about shapewear or ‘flattering’ bikinis. When I began researching this edit, I was more than mildly insulted that when you search for ‘best swimwear for mums’, it zeroes in on tummy control. Now, don’t get me wrong, my belly could do with some support, but I’m here to tell you: wear the bikini. Wear the swimsuit. You are beach-ready just as you are. I will be repeating this mantra to myself as I dare to slip into said bikinis and resist the urge to badmouth my own body.

If you’re a mum like me, don’t let that stop you from wearing what you want to wear. Wear the bikini.

But honestly, mum or not, go for the sexy one-piece, embrace bold colours, step out onto that beach in the teeny ‘kini. This article is about confidence-boosting swimwear: styles I rely on every summer, colourful pieces that bring me joy, and simple prints, like stripes or polka dots, that don’t overwhelm. These pieces are made to make you feel fabulous on your holiday, as you absolutely should.

The one-piece

This little number has come a long way. Once actually deemed ‘mumsy’ (how rude), it’s now sophisticated and ever so sexy. From plunging necklines to sleek cut-out details, I’ve been totally converted. Full marks to & Other Stories for its covetable collection this season. If you have been searching for flattering swimwear for mums despite my previous rants, then these will 100% tick all the right boxes. Personally, I’m a fan of block colours, specifically black and red, over patterned pieces, purely because they feel more chic. Just add sunnies and a cocktail.

The bikinis

Believe it or not, just because I’ve had a kid doesn’t mean I’m banned from the two-piece. Admittedly, the thong is a firm no for me. That’s a step too far that I didn’t even take in my twenties. I’ll be sticking to the tie-sides or cheeky briefs. H&M has a selection to rival – make sure you check out the push-up polka-dot bikini top. Not only does it look great, but it feels all kinds of empowering.

The little black number

Much like our faithful little black dress, a simple black swimsuit is my go-to. On those days when I need a boost or simply want something failsafe, you can never go wrong with this classic. The asymmetric styles feel especially luxe, and thankfully, everyone from COS to & Other Stories has one.
