From retro aviators to dramatic bug-eye frames, designers have gone big on eyewear for SS26. These are statement-worthy, head-turning and adored by the style set. We scoured our favourite content creators for the freshest inspo, and what we found? A seriously covetable edit of oversized sunglasses that demand to be seen.

Let me start with the practicals, because sometimes they matter. If you’ve ever had a late night, no sleep, or feel less than amazing, then these supersized sunnies will be the best investment. Pop these on for instant attitude – no make-up required. Hangover? What hangover?

But let’s talk fashion, because this trend has serious credentials. Every major runway featured oversized sunglasses in its collections. Versace opted for the shield look, while Miu Miu went for sporty XL shades. Balloon frames, aviator styles, and extreme geometric silhouettes have all dominated. They add drama, while still looking indisputably cool. So much so, we’re now seeing them filter down to the high street. COS is serving up sleek, minimal pairs in every shade imaginable, Topshop is – unsurprisingly – on it with its supersize selection, and H&M is your go-to for chic, yet purse-friendly buys.

Designers Bottega Veneta, Gucci and Balenciaga all went big with their sunnies – we’re obsessed.

It was during Fashion Month that oversized sunnies really made their presence known. Editors, stylists and content creators all made a compelling case for going XL. Though it’s worth acknowledging the rivalry: since Love Story reignited obsession with JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the ’90s slim-line oval has been mounting a serious comeback. Oversized drama or sleek minimalism – which side are you on?
