Designer Rugs Are The Ultimate Autumn Update For Your Home

There’s no denying it, there’s a noticeable chill in the air, so how about a seasonal interiors switch up? Aside from turning on the heating and plumping up your cushions, there’s a very stylish way to add warmth to your living room. Simply amp up the cosy with one of these gorgeous designer rugs.

A sleek wooden floor is one thing, but throw down a rug and it’s like an invitation to snuggle. It’s the finishing touch that brings a room together, immediately infusing comfort and a welcoming ambience. With a rug you can say goodbye to cold feet and echoey rooms. Instead, hello to plush softness underfoot as you crawl from bed on cold winter mornings or prepare for toasty nights in watching the latest binge-worthy show. Add one now and you’ll wonder why you hadn’t sooner.

Ruggable has you covered for every room – even outside, if you’re still braving outdoor living – although we’re particularly excited about their brilliant collaborations. There was, of course, the Iris Apfel collection featuring wild animals, palm trees and paisley prints, but now we’re eagerly awaiting the next installment from the Jonathan Adler collab. As you’d expect, these unique rugs all have a retro feel to them featuring bold prints and are, in fact, true works of art. Similarly, it’s hard not to be inspired by the designs from the colour-filled brand, Floor Story, which are in-your-face, bolder, less ‘safe’ and so much fun.

Alternatively, for the minimalists, Layered, the Swedish interior design brand specialises in Scandinavian elegance. It effortlessly marries understated style with cosiness and family comfort. Likewise, Arket, Cox and Cox and Andrew Martin all have incredibly chic, simple wool rugs. Plus, with high street interiors currently so good, you have to check out Mango, Zara and French Connection for their creations in bouclé, sheepskin and wool. For something with a slightly vintage feel, Soho Home has a fabulous range in a variety of sizes, as do Nordic Knots and Anthropologie.

So, whether you’re after a rug on the daring side or something a little plainer, we’ve curated some of our favourite pieces to get you thinking about your next autumn homeware update…

Soho Home is a must for gorgeous, plush rugs, especially their printed iterations, which will add warmth to any room, without overwhelming or dominating. Moroccan, oriental and geometric styles are still very much of the moment, with checkerboard prints standing out.

Plain Rugs

When less is more, you can't ignore the power of a simple, fluffy rug. It radiates that classic cosy, yet minimal Scandinavian vibe, perfect as the nights draw in and we edge closer to winter. Head to Layered or Ruggable for the perfect shaggy rugs.

If neutrals aren't your thing, then fear not, labels like Nordic Knots, Floor Story and Proba Home, have all embraced maximalist styles. Much like pieces of art, these rugs are unique and transformative. Go for wild florals, graphic prints or clashing colours.
