Why Everyone Is Talking About Elsinore Starring Andrew Scott And Olivia Colman
On paper, Elsinore has all the makings of a personal favourite. Bringing together Hamlet, Andrew Scott, and a compelling true story set against the backdrop of the National Theatre, saying I am excited for this release is an understatement. Fresh off last night’s London Film Festival premiere, the buzz is only growing, so here is everything you need to know about the upcoming release.
What is it about?
Directed by Simon Stone, Elsinore tells the moving true story of Scottish actor Ian Charleson. Best known for his breakout role in Chariots of Fire, Charleson made the decision in 1989 to take over the starring role of Hamlet at the National Theatre following Daniel Day-Lewis’s sudden departure. Performing while secretly battling terminal complications from AIDS, Charleson delivered 24 unforgettable, haunting performances that became legend. In fact, Charleson’s portrayal of Hamlet is widely considered the greatest of all time within the theatrical world.
