From The Banana To The Cagole: Meet This Year’s Most Iconic Designer Bags
Each season there are stand-out accessories, but then there are those that become legendary. We will forever covet the Hermès Birkin, Dior Lady or the noughties’ favourite, the Balenciaga City; so what are the totes of choice for 2022? And what if your budget doesn’t allow for this designer indulgence? Fear not, we have picked our favourites and some very lovely lookalikes…
The Row definitely stole the show yet again this year with the ‘Slouchy Banana’, named after its casual, curved shape. Originally launched in 2019, it was an instant hit, with influencers across the globe snapping it up – demand was so great that other brands were quick to emulate the design. High street favourite Cos’s iteration was a sell-out success, and they have just dropped their latest versions in chocolate brown and pink.
Unsurprisingly Bottega Veneta is leading the fashion pack with an array of desirable arm candy, namely the The Cassette and the The Jodie. Both were introduced under the tenure of Creative Director, Daniel Lee, using the house’s signature Intrecciato weave. Their runway success has earned them staying power under new Creative Director Matthieu Blazy. He has since introduced The Sardine and The Tosca (as well as that leather tasselled skirt – not a bag but unforgettable nonetheless). The label has set the sartorial bar high.
Following on from the illustrious Balenciaga City and the phenomenon for Y2K style, the Cagole shoulder bag is currently on the arm of every style-savvy celeb and influencer. Coming in a variety of bold and garish shades and embellished with studs, it’s a rebellious cult pick.
Our final hero had to hit the glam notes and no bag did it better than the Cult Gaia Hera Nano Rhinestone. It exudes Studio 54 vibes with its gorgeously slouchy silhouette and disco metallic sheen. We expect to see this dominate the party season. And yes, it works seamlessly with cocktail frocks, but it comes into its own when teamed with an oversize blazer and baggy jeans.
We challenge you not to fall for these beauties, so let the temptation begin…
