How To Style Leather Shorts
Bored of always reaching for failsafe jeans in the morning? The Handbook takes you through how to style leather shorts with three easy looks.
A pair of leather shorts can offer so many styling options in your wardrobe, from off-duty weekend looks to date-night ‘fits and more. While on the surface they may feel a little intimidating, they can be super wearable, chic and look pulled together. The key is to get the shape and the length right. Anything too short and you’re venturing into lederhosen territory, whilst tailored cuts that sit high on the waist are far more flattering.
The high street is doing leather so well right now, with many options looking polished and expensive without the shocking price tag. Look to COS and Zara for smarter options, or French brand Claudie Pierlot for paper bag-style waists that will add shape to a look.

LOOK 1 – HOW TO STYLE WITH A CLASSIC BLAZER
Whilst leather shorts may feel like a risqué option, pairing them with a prim frilly white blouse and classic heritage blazer brings the whole look down. This Massimo Dutti herringbone check will bring the look down a notch whilst Dune’s chunky boots will add a grungy (and warm) vibe.
LOOK 2 – HOW TO STYLE LIKE A FRENCH GIRL
It’s no secret we love a bit of French girl style here at The Handbook, and this look plays perfectly into the leather shorts trend. Mint Velvet’s breton striped top with fluted sleeves is definitely our find of the week. Perfect poking out of a classic Chanel-style bouclé jacket and toughened up with Zara’s faux leather shorts.
LOOK 3 – HOW TO STYLE WITH A TRENCH & TRAINERS
Finally, for something more weekend appropriate, take a classic oversized denim shirt and slouchy trench to add a softer edge to grungy leather shorts. Adidas’ retro Gazelle sneakers are having a moment (again) and these inky blue pair will play into the colour palette perfectly.
