balaclavas

Looking for a solution to zero degree commute temperatures? 2023’s unlikely balaclava trend is here for you.

We never thought we’d be writing about balaclavas as one of AW’s top accessories trends, but here we are. Mega brands, from Proenza Schouler to Prada, showcased the Marmite trend in their AW22 collections and the fashion world has eagerly followed. Before you think “WTF, absolutely not!” bear with us. It’s absolutely freezing outside and this is one way to add a little bit of coziness to the morning commute/dog walk/school run/weekend in the country.

There are plenty of options to choose from whether you want to dip your toe into the trend on the high street or are in it for the long-haul with an investment designer piece.

First up,  H&M’s cosy ribbed options in sober colour palettes of cream, grey and black (actually so subtle they’ll just look like an extension of your coat or hoody), followed by more boujee takes on the trend like Rosantica’s crystal-embellished wool version – so extra it’s like cosy jewellery for the face. And for something a little retro, FreePeople’s monochrome crochet balaclava will add a kooky edge to your cold-weather look.

Scroll to shop the best of the balaclava trend, but be warned, if you’re an avid foundation wearer, be mindful of your colour choice.

Greys, creams and black and are most sobering way to work the trend but if you really want to embrace the balaclava look, FreePeople's fun crochet version will add a pop of interest to all your cold weather looks.
