I Love LA Is A Chaotic New HBO Comedy Series With A Star Cast

Actress Rachel Sennott has built up something of a cult following over the past few years- from her breakout onto the film scene with Shiva Baby, to her roles in Bodies Bodies Bodies and Bottoms (which she also co-wrote). Now she’s bringing her new comedy series, I Love LA, to HBO, a project she both created and stars in. Set, as you’d guess, in LA, it follows Sennott’s character Maia and her chaotic friendship group. Here’s all we know so far:
What is I Love LA about?
The show, which was commissioned by HBO in 2024 following her appearance in Bottoms and I Used To Be Funny, features Sennott as the main character, Maia, but is really more about her whole friendship group and how it changes. Maia herself is described as neurotic, but also ambitious- a quality that she shares with the rest of her friends in the hectic world of LA. In particular, she has a complicated rivalry and friendship with Tallullah (played by Odessa D’Azion, who stars in sports drama Marty Supreme this year). Maia herself invents the mantra of hustling “until your idols become your rivals” as she tells herself in the series trailer- but the effects of this plan begin to affect her life.

Maia’s friendship group have reunited after years apart, but may have changed more than she would expect, or would like. Missing out on a promotion at work and increasingly irked by Tallullah, Maia sets out to achieve her goals in life as she realises her time has changed her friendships. The Hunger Games and Five Nights At Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson, meanwhile, stars as Maia’s boyfriend Dylan, who also seems to warn her during the trailer about how ambitious and competitive people in LA can be. She may want to “step out and make sure the town sees us”, but whether that’ll change her and those she knows for the worse remains to be seen.

Who else stars, and what else do we know?
There are a few other notable names who are set to crop up in I Love LA– including Moses Ingram (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Lauren Holt (SNL), as well as Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood. The show is set to have eight episodes for its first season- though there’s no definite UK release date yet (it arrives in the US on 2nd November).
