The beginning of March brings with it an international celebration for Women’s History Month, as well as an annual celebration on the 8th of March, signifying International Women’s Day. It offers us a chance to commemorate and raise a toast to women and all of their achievements.
If you’re looking for ways to celebrate, we’ve rounded up the best International Women’s Day events in London, from female chef takeovers to powerful exhibitions and panel discussions.
Step Forward with AllBright
AllBright, the leading female members’ club dedicated to making change, is hosting its annual International Women’s Day event. This year’s event, titled AllBright’s Step Forward Summit’, will feature a host of incredible speakers, including industry leaders in business, philanthropy, fashion, music and the arts, and share how they have made a difference.
2024’s line-up includes comedian and writer Katherine Ryan; broadcaster, historian and bestselling author Emma Dabiri; founder of Deliciously Ella, Ella Mills; founder and author of Saturn Returns, Caggie Dunlop; CEO of The Motherhood Group, policy maker and author, Sandra Igew; climate activist and writer, Tori Tsui; and more.

Women on the Frontlines
A celebration of our frontline works amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Women on the Frontlines is a month-long exhibition curated and photographed by Elizabeth Okoh.
Running throughout March, it brings together a collection of work, featuring ten women who worked in the essential industries. From the NHS to postal services, it takes a deeper look at the mental, emotional and physical realities during this period.

‘Firebird & Friends’ Month Of Events
This March sees Soho’s female-owned open-fire restaurant Firebird’s collaborative series, ‘Firebird & Friends’, return with an action-packed line-up. Spread across the month will be a selection of events, with female chefs, restaurateurs and sommeliers at the forefront in celebration of International Women’s Month.
Kicking off the series on IWD will be Adriana Cavita and Ana Ortiz who have teamed up to create a special menu centred around flame and fire cooking. Expect an evening packed with smoky mezcal cocktails from female-led distillers Maya Jules, natural Mexican wines from Bichi Winery and delicious flavour-packed dishes.
On Wednesday 20th March, head chef and founder of Mambow, Abby Lee, will create a menu filled with vibrant flavours. Alongside, Firebird’s sommelier and co-founder, Anna Dolgushina, will offer a wine pairing menu to complement the flavours.
The month-long series finishes with Ekstedy’s Theres Andersson on Monday 25th March. She’ll be bringing her Scandinavian seafood cooking to Soho, with her signature dish cod with charcoal cream, horseradish, white asparagus and dill making an appearance.

Women by Women 2024
Taking place over International Women’s Day weekend is ActionAid’s unique photographic campaign. Titled Women by Women, it’s a celebration of the inspirational stories of women and girls, as well as the talent of women photographers across the globe.
Running from 7th until 10th March, expect to uncover a collection of images from around the world, from Poland to Uganda, Bangladesh to Turkey and Colombia. The collection includes works from documentary photographer Esther Mbabazi, humanist photographer Fabeha Monir, award-winning documentary photographer and lawyer F Dilek Yurdakul, self-taught visual artist and photographer Laura Rios Diaz, and food photographer Magda Klimczak.

Mix & Move: Queer Latinx Fusion
As part of Southbank Centre’s monthly free dance sessions, the venue will be hosting an exciting International Women’s Day workshop, led by dancer Rachel Sparks.
Taking place in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer, this Mix & Move social dance session will bend the traditional rules of ballroom dancing. Anyone can take the lead, no matter their gender and bring some passion to the dancefloor. This session is led by an all-women team of Rachel Sparks and Jacky Logan OBE, with Latinx DJ Collective POPOLA for an inclusive queer takeover.

WOW: One Night In London
WOW – Women of the World – is back with another brilliant evening packed with optimism, determination and laughter to celebrate IWD 2024.
Taking over Shoreditch Town Hall, the evening will be led by WOW’s Founder Jude Kelly and will see best-selling author Elif Shafak, writer Liv Little and writer and performer Jordan Stephens tell important stories from around the world. Come together as you celebrate the achievements and progress of women, girls and non-binary people, looking at the obstacles they face and discussing solutions for a better future.

International Women’s Day Chef Series at The Pem
A month-long celebration, hosted by trailblazing chef Sally Abé, is set to take place throughout March at her signature restaurant, The Pem at Conrad London St. James.
Supported by Sera, a social platform for individuals passionate about food and drink, the series will bring together female culinary talent. Kicking off on Monday 1st will be renowned celebrity chef and owner of Romy’s Kitchen, Romy Gill MBE – expect dishes such as Mangolorian spiced crab on English crumpets with tamarind chutney; and blood orange savarin with cardamon syrup and clotted cream ice cream.
It will be followed by an evening with The Great British Bake Off 2016 winner, Candice Brown, on 7th March. Michelin-trained chef and viral sensation, Poppy O’Toole’ will be taking over the kitchen on 15th March, while multi-award-winning chef and restaurateur Chantelle Nicholson will close the series on 22nd March.

International Women’s Day Preview: Banel & Adama + Q&A

On Friday 8th March, Girls I Rate and Notion Magazine will be putting on a party to remember. Taking over Hammersmith’s Kindred, ‘Step In’ will be hosted by Captain Lulaz and feature a brilliant line-up of international DJs.
Designed with the Amapiano lovers in mind, the lineup includes international DJ SkylaTylaa who has opened for Wiz Kid; London-based AB DOLLAR$; Ms Dee aka The Ms Dee Effect; and high-energy GIR resident DJ Jess Bee and GIR Dancers.
