Demi Moore And Jon Hamm Star In A New Drama Series Landman
In the modern world, there’s one commodity worth more than perhaps any other: oil. Paramount+’s new drama series Landman, which features a starry cast, is set in the world of big oil in Texas.
It’s based on the podcast Boomtown which follows the 21st century boom of oil in the Permian Basin in the state, and stars Billy Bob Thornton (Goliath), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Demi Moore (The Substance). It’s set to arrive later this month- here’s everything you need to know:
What is Landman about?
The show takes place in West Texas, where the people who hold the most power and wealth are the billionaires who work to extract oil and sell it. A huge boom in business has occurred, changing the lives of those involved with a greater impact on the country and the wider world. Goliath star, Thornton, plays Tommy Norris, one of the crisis executives of an oil company in the state. There’s a lot of money to be made in the business, and some of that responsibility falls on his shoulders: “The oil and gas industry makes 3 billion dollars a day in pure profit, and it’s only getting bigger” he narrates in the trailer. He has to help acquire the land to dig for oil from, and then be able to manage the people living there, which, as he says, “can get you killed.”
Landman also follows the people at the very top making the most money, including Monty Miller (Hamm), who has a longtime professional relationship with Tommy. Alongside him is his wife Cami (Moore), and the series will explore how the decisions these oil titans make affect the wider economy. Andy Garcia (The Ocean’s Trilogy) also stars as Galino, described as “extremely powerful” and Michael Pẽna plays Armando, one of the many thousands of oil crewmen.
What else do we know about Landman?
The intense drama will follow all these characters and more as they seek to make money and deal with dangerous crises, despite some opposition they encounter. “The world has already convinced itself that you are evil, and I am evil, for providing them with the one thing they interact with every day” says Hamm’s character Monty. But as the trailer teases, many risks are involved, some deadly. The series is set to arrive on Paramount+ on 18th November.
