Sorry to break it to you but it’s time to face the truth… Christmas is on the way. Yes we haven’t had Halloween or Bonfire night yet, but venues are booking up fast. And you don’t want to be that one who has to let your friends/office/family down when you tell them you’ve booked the Christmas party on a great date…in 2019. So The Handbook’s put together some suggestions to get you started.
Getting a big group together? Then head to Chokhi Dhani who will be putting on a Christmas Fiesta menu for groups of six people ore more. Dishes are to share for the table and include papad with chutneys, vegetable samosa chaat, murgh makhmali, kebab sheek-e-khazana; turky biryani and Rajasthani paneer marwari and for pudding sticky date and winter melon seeds pudding with clotted cream. You just need to give them 24 hours warning before arriving. They will also be putting on a Christmas menu for groups of 2 or more which will include complimentary mince pies and you can add in a cheese platter.
Whether it’s an intimate Christmas lunch with friends and family or an all-out dinner for the whole office, The Lighterman is the ideal spot for your Christmas party. Gather the gang in the Canalside Bar for a full-on feast or for cocktails and festive canapés up to 100 guests. Groups can also be hosted exclusively in the First Floor Dining Room and with panoramic views of Regent’s Canal and Granary Square, it’s certainly where the party’s at. On the menu you’ll find goat’s cheese croquettes with cranberry compote; free-range turkey breast and confit leg with pork stuffing, cranberry compote and roast trimmings; venison pie with glazed carrots and parsnips; and warm chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream.
Arguably Mayfair’s best kept secret, 27 Restaurant & Bar has five menus to choose from this Christmas perfect for a festive banquet in their private dining room, Curzon Room. We’ve got our eye on the pumpkin soup with crispy camembert ravioli and amaretti, but then the festive three birds roast with mulled wine gravy sounds rather good and we might have to try the steamed Dover sole with lobster mousse and Champagne beurre blanc. So does the panettone bread and butter pudding with Armagnac ice cream…we might be having to book several private dinners.

If Christmas is a time for feasting then look not further than Hammer & Tongs. They have four smoky, braai platters to choose from (veggie options are available too) and each one comes with a glass of wine and crackers. There’s also the option to add a Cape Brandy pudding, but is that even really a decision? Of course we’ll add it.
