London is of course a collection of neighbourhoods, villages and communities which have all merged together to create this great city and within these different pockets are brilliant neighbourhood restaurants. One of which is Minnow in Clapham, founded by Chris Frichot and Saba Tsegaye. Sharing the love, Chris has recommended his top 5 neighbourhood restaurants across London.
What: The Best English Breakfast
Why: I love Pedler in Peckham, the atmosphere is fantastic and the food is always seasonal. You can pop in any time of day because they start with brunch and keep serving until dinner so is a perfect weekend spot. They also do great a great selection of gin cocktails, which are not to be missed!
Don’t Miss: The Pedler Breakfast is a full English with bells on, at only a tenner it’s a steal.
Where: 58 Peckham Rye, Peckham, SE15 4JR
The Canton Arms
What: Great for Sunday Lunch
Why: The Canton Arms is my favourite place to go for a Sunday lunch, especially in the winter. I always try and make an early booking at around midday, get a prime spot close to the fire and then spend the whole afternoon here. They do amazing pies to share, so go with a group and get a couple for the table to share.
Don’t Miss: The venison pie with buttered greens is always packed with flavour and perfect for a cosy Sunday lunch.
Where: The Canton Arms, 177 South Lambeth Road, SW8 1XP
What: Ever-Changing Menu
Why: Salon in Brixton has recently opened with a brand new downstairs bar and wine store next door. I love that it’s a place for all occasions – you can pop in for a plate of their amazing fresh pappardelle in the downstairs bar and a glass of wine, or go for the smarter option of the set menu in the dining room upstairs, which is seriously impressive.
Don’t Miss: Salon’s menu changes all the time, but all their veggie dishes are fantastic. There is a parsnip dish with cow’s curd, pickled beetroot and candied walnuts on the menu that I’ve been eyeing up.
Where: 18 Market Row, Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, SW9 8LD
What: Exceptional Pasta
Why: One of my old haunts is Trullo, in Highbury. The menu is Italian and all of the dishes are so simple but pack so much flavour. The pasta dishes are exceptional, and I can never resist one of their cocktails – I always go for the classic Italian Negroni.
Don’t Miss: The classic beef shin ragu with pappardelle is hard to beat.
Where: 300 - 302 Paul's Road, London, N1 2LH
What: For a Special Occasion
Why: Pidgin in Hackney is great for a special occasion and you will never be disappointed. They change their menu every week and they haven’t repeated a dish in over two years!
Don’t Miss: Hard to pick as the menu changes every week, and all of the dishes are cooked to such a high standard.
Where: 52 Wilton Way, Hackney, E8 1BG
Minnow, a new neighbourhood restaurant, opened its doors to the locals of SW4 in July 2017, offering modern seasonal dishes, and a healthy dose of weekend brunch and cocktails thrown in for good measure
