The Top Six Culinary Collaborations

25th February 2016 | By Fran Hazell

The latest trend to take over the restaurant foodie world – the chef collaboration. Action Against Hunger has been hosting exclusive charity events for years, bringing together some of the world’s best chefs to host one-off dinners at various venues across the capital. It seems the industry has taken note and a wealth of special events, residencies and exclusive one-off dinners have started popping up across the city. We’ve rounded up a few of the most exciting collaborations, including one of the most exciting ‘pop-ups’ to ever happen in a Michelin-starred kitchen.

Lyle’s

British meets…

Michelin-starred British restaurant Lyle’s celebrates British produce in all its glory and launched its guest series with this in mind. Head chef James Lowe wanted to give you lovely lot the opportunity to see our homegrown ingredients and live stock in a different light, and thus The Guest Series was born! The dinners, hosted at Lyle’s in Shoreditch with the support of Veuve Clicquot, bring some of the world’s best restaurants and chefs to the fore, offering exclusive menus for one night only.

Le Gavroche

Like Father Like Daughter

Le Gavroche has always been a family affair – Michel Roux Jr took over the reigns from his father Albert in 1991, and it was the first London restaurant to receive 3 Michelin stars – but now for the first time, Michel is welcoming his daughter Emily into his kitchen. A few years spent training in France has prepared Emily for the task, and under the name ‘The Next Generation’, the duo will be serving a menu they’ve designed together on Monday evenings. Emily has ruled out a permanent place at La Gavroche so this will be your only chance to catch the next generation of Roux, cooking together for one night a week.

Carousel

Rotating restaurants

One of The Handbook’s favourites! This ever-changing restaurant and events space in Marylebone brings chefs from across the globe to a kitchen in London, The week-long or fortnightly ‘residencies’ see chefs such as Freddy Money (who has trained with the likes of Alain Ducasse and Ferran Adria) and Tokyo’s Rimpei Yoshikawa team up with Carousel’s resident chef Ollie Templeton. Each pop-up restaurant serves an exclusive yet remarkably affordable four-course set-menu showcasing the guest chef’s staple dishes.

Hotbox

Competitive cook-off

Taking place on Monday 29th February, Spitalfields BBQ specialist Hotbox will take on Islington’s Smokestak for a competitive cook off. Head chefs Lewis Spencer and David Carter will go head to head, ‘smoking’ it out for the undisputed BBQ championship! Each ‘team’ will produce a sharing platter of their classic smoked meats, including brisket, beef rib, pork ribs and a ‘wildcard’ dish – get excited! – all served with sides including jalapeno slaw, potato salad and pickles.

Global Gastronomy

Every Autumn, Action Against Hunger brings together globally-renowned chefs to host a one-off dinner and raise money for those in need. The charity have seen the likes of Chris and Jeff Galvin, Jose Pizarro and Richard Corrigan join forces in the kitchen at the City’s Andaz hotel, each creating a unique dish to sit alongside one another as part of a once-in-a-lifetime tasting menu, which is available for one night only.
