The first weekend of February means our wallets are full and we want our glasses to be too. Not to mention our stomachs, that pretty much goes without saying… Good job then that this weekend sees a couple of new brunches, a new Thai street food restaurant opening, and for all the night owls out there, the Super Bowl – aka the biggest sporting event in the USA. Celebrate accordingly with hot dogs, foam hands and the big game on a big screen. Friday: we’re ready for you.

Thai Street Food Residency
Thai street food restaurant Farang begins a 6-month residency in Highbury on Friday. If you haven’t heard of it don’t worry. Seb Holmes is the guy behind it – he’s cooked at Soho’s Smoking Goat and Peckham’s Begging Bowl and Farang has already popped up at Dinerama and Hawker House so he knows his stuff. Expect large and small plates of fragrant contemporary Thai dishes; flat iron steak with roasted chilli jaew and jungle curry of fresh Cornish daybook fish. Rumour has it that if the residency does well it will become a permanent spot so watch this space…
Opens Friday 3rd February
Nordic Inspired Brunch
Having only launched yesterday, Aster are getting right into the hearts of Londoners by launching their Saturday brunch – and of course it has the option of bottomless bubbles. You’ll find classic brunch dishes like smashed avocado on rye bread, twists on classics like the Egg Victoria with lobster, seeded rye and truffle hollandaise and Nordic dishes you’re unlikely to have come across at brunch before, like herrings, reindeer salami and a lingonberry, quinoa and kefir mousse pudding. There’ll be sets from DJs and the last Saturday of each month is given over to live bands. Yep Aster, you’ll fit in nicely.

All of the Lights
Ever seen a cool neon sign on the wall of a bar and gone through ways you could possibly sneak it home under your jacket? Yep, guilty. This weekend sees the launch of art exhibition ‘Entwined’, showcasing the work of British artist Lauren Baker and before you ask, yes, we want it all. Her neon signs scrawl sayings like ‘I love you to the moon and back’ and ‘Just kiss, we can talk later’ – Valentine’s present perhaps?
Launches Friday 3rd February, until 23rd February. Closed Mondays.
Super Bowl Party
Night owls will be well aware that Sunday sees the biggest event in the US sporting calendar; the Super Bowl. As the New England Patriots battle it out against the Atlanta Falcons you can watch the action from Balthazar as they host a Super Bowl party. A party’s not a party without food and drink so you’ll be sipping ‘The Maker’s Touchdown’ bourbon cocktail and picking at sharing plates including chicken wings, hot dogs and mac ’n’ cheese, with mini doughnuts, chocolate brownies and New York cheesecake for when the tiredness kicks in and you need a sugar hit. You might want to book Monday morning off…
