Weekend wishlist: 21st – 23rd September
Happy weekend Handbookers! Yes, it’s only been a few short days (and getting shorter, have you noticed?), but the weekend is back upon us and with it no shortage of things to be getting up to. Here’s how you can indulge…
108 Pantry
National Cupcake Week, contender for one of the worthiest national celebrations of the year, up there with diabetes week and so on, is quietly coming to an end. And of course Marylebone’s 108 Pantry have been all over it like fondant icing. With a limited edition menu of unique cupcakes created specially for the celebration, the bakery, led by Pastry Chef Moinal Islam and Executive Chef Russell Ford, have come up with a blueberry and marshmallow cupcake, a chocolate and blackberry creation plus a peanut butter and toffee popcorn cupcake.

The event, always held in a secret location, will celebrate everything disco, funk and boogie with the added advantage of bottomless cocktails and two course brunch. Arrive to an hour of bottomless drinks, followed by a fantastic two-course brunch, plus games (think theme-relevant: including ‘Soul Train’, a dancing competition) as well as some fabulous music and atmosphere.

The Chipnation team are a chip shop with a difference, they offer the finest chips with over 7,000 different flavour combos, leaving it up to you to decide exactly how you want your chips. Brigadiers
“It’s a fight… it’s a real fight!”. If you immediately appreciate this Bridget Jones reference then you’re quite probably not in the Venn for this event, but nevertheless… Brigadiers are putting on a special event this Sunday for the fight. The big one. The heavyweight boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin and if you’re someone who’s into boxing you’ll know this is a pretty big deal. But if you’re the sort of person who would rather spend the match quietly chuckling at your own Bridget Jones jokes, have no fear, Brigadiers is the perfect place. While everyone else goes nuts over the boxing, enjoy the surroundings of this Indian army mess hall inspired restaurant and it’s delicious Indian barbecue dishes. Which is enough to mean I’d sit through dozens of rounds of fighting just to make the most of it.

Palatino
Looking for inspiration as to where to head out for dinner this weekend? Look no further than Palatino. The Stevie Parle restaurant has just launched a whole new menu and we’re as keen as anyone to give it a try. The cit based Roman restaurant will be serving up delights such as sea bass, wrapped in fig leaves and stuffed with walnuts or a seasonal partridge, pancetta and agro dolce. And talking about dolce, the puddings look pretty pukka too, leaving me undecided as to finish off the panna cotta, Marsala poached fig or the strawberry, mascarpone and almond tart first. Or maybe both, because as they say: when in Rome…
The Autumn menu is available now. Also, if you can bear to look forward this far, Palatino are offering a free bottle of Prosecco or a £50 gift voucher if you make Christmas bookings for more than 6 people
