What To Do This Weekend – 13th – 15th May

12th May 2016 | By Fran Hazell

How’s your weekend looking? Ours looks a bit like this: cycling across the capital wearing tweed, sampling organic wine, partying to the sounds of the 90s, checking out an exhibition about tattoos and feasting on Sunday? Want to know the whole of our weekend then read on, but as we  were saying what does yours look like?

Raw Wine Fair

Wine Fair and Pop-Up

This weekend is the fifth RAW Wine Fair at the Old Truman Brewery which will see over 150 growers of low intervention, organic, biodynamic and natural wines come together along with artisan food stalls and craft beer. If you can’t wait until Saturday then to celebrate London Edition are hosting a RAW wine pop-up bar which is taking over the whole of the basement, where you’ll be able to try over 100 different wines.

Tweed Run

The best dressed cycling race you'll ever see

The quintessential British sports event returns for its 8th annual bicycle ride on the 14th May where attendees cycle through the city’s iconic landmarks stopping for a tea break and a picnic stop all dress in tweed…obviously. If you don’t feel like donning your finest tweed attire but still want to be part of the frivolity then head over to Spa Fields for the Closing Ceremony and Garden Party where you can cheer the riders over the finish line, feast on a delicious BBQ and cocktails plus watch live music.

Against the Grain

Camden Market gluten free festival

To round of Coeliac Awareness Week, Camden Market will be hosting a gluten free festival – Against the Grain. Whether you can’t eat gluten or choose not to, this festival is worth checking out (and it’s free, so no excuses). The weekend will be packed full of events from yoga for children and book signings to author and chef, Lisa Roukin demonstrating how to make decadent chocolate brownies. There’ll be plenty of gluten free food too (we counted 26 traders!) from the likes of Cupcakes & Shhht! Artisan Gluten Free Bakery, Pulsin Bars and Feed Me Primal.

Where: Camden Market, 54 - 56 Camden Lock Place, NW1 8AF

Tattoo London

All About the Ink

Tattoos they’re part of everyday now, perhaps you’ve got a full on sleeve, a couple of little designs or one that you’ve come to regret #Magaluf2K16. However, did you know that King Edward VII and George V both had tattoos (imagine Prince Charles with a dragon on his arm…) and that the first London tattoo parlour was opened by tattoo artist Sutherland MacDonald in St James in 1894? Well you would if you go to the Museum of London for their exhibition Tattoo London. It offers an insight into the history of professional tattooing in London, including mementos from the studios and the chance to see newly commissioned works from tattooists. You have to be quick though, it ends on Sunday.

Roald-Dahl Inspired Fun Day

One for the children

If you have children, are being the doting aunt/uncle or are on babysitting duty this weekend then read on. This Saturday Broadgate Circle are hosting a free literary day inspired by Roald Dahl who would have been 100 this September. Activities will include arts and crafts, a sweetie forest, theatrical and immersive storytelling and spectacular science displays. Afterwards head to Aubaine where children can eat for free or reward yourself and go to Rocket Bishopsgate for their Roald-Dahl inspired cocktails, we have our eye on the Crafty Fox; Żubrówka vodka, St Germain elderflower liqueur with carrot, lemon and apple juice.

Harvey Nichols' Men's Weekender

For Men in the Know

Guys listen up, we know that men’s fashion isn’t written about nearly enough as women’s fashion and we know that most fashion events are aimed at women, but this weekend it’s all about the Men’s Weekender at Harvey Nichols to celebrate the launch of the new men’s wear department. Across the weekend they’ll have over 30 different events including Eton monogramming, style sessions with This is England’s cast, food from Polpo, free beer from Peroni, a chance to see HYPEBEAST Kicks -a curation of rare and unseen sneakers, demonstrations from tanners and shoemakers and a whole host of sartorial events. As Harvery Nichols say ‘great men deserve great style’.

90's Brunch

Fresher than the Prince of Bel- Air

We might be rather bias but for us the 90s was where it was at. Kid’s TV was at its peak, watching Fresh Prince of Bel- Air was pretty much a religion and we were introduced to the Spice Girls. The guys over at the 90s Brunch pop-up agree and this weekend they’re back with more dope 90s tunes, nostalgic 90s food, cocktails a plenty (which you were probably too young to even drink in the 90s) and the return of the lip sync battle. #NinetiesNeverDie

Dickie Fitz Feast

Sunday is the new Saturday

Forget Saturday, Sunday is where it’s at this weekend, because Dickie Fitz’s monthly feasting party is back. So get yourself out of bed, get a bunch of your pals together and head over to Newman Street. The menu is all about sharing; tuck into beef ribs, a whole Iberico suckling pig and plenty of sides. Just because it’s Monday the next day doesn’t mean that you can’t have a Bloody Mary or go all out and have the Walkabout Water Melon punch – kiwi vodka served in a hollowed out watermelon- they have a DJ there after all.
