Lío London 1st Anniversary Weekend

This month sees Lío London celebrate its first year in the city and 100 years of their iconic venue – the former Café de Paris. They will be commemorating the anniversary with an epic three-day celebration marking a century of show dining, cabaret and live music. 

Festivities will kick off on Thursday 14th with a roaring 1920s party, complete with a Champagne reception and entertainment, before a grand banquet and live band. 

Celebrations will continue into the weekend with an anniversary-themed show, followed by two late-night special events. Friday night will see German house and techno star DJ Claptone take over the decks and Saturday evening will play host to an extra-racy, specially-themed Lates party for those who like their nightlife a little spicier.

BARRAFINA INVITA 05: MIGUEL CAÑO

Fancy a taste of the best Spanish cooking in the heart of London? The next Barrafina Invita event has you covered. Miguel Caño of the Michelin-starred Riojan restaurant, Nublo, will be cooking a special 7-course tasting menu at Barrafina Borough Yards on Tuesday, 19th March.

The £100 tasting menu will be playful, ingredient-led, and innovative. Dishes include Chip Ibérica con papada curada, Ibérica ham, potato crisp with bechamel sauce, and Sirloin with blue cheese and cristal pepper.  An optional wine pairing from a third-generation family business considered Riojan winemaking royalty, Bodegas Muga, will also be available on the night.

Supper Club Dinners at Cheneston’s 

Cheneston’s is launching a new series of supper club dinners, led by executive chef Dan Putz. The first of many evenings will be hosted on Thursday 28th March and will see guests guided on a journey inspired by Putz’ travels and culinary experiences. 

The evening will feature dishes such as curated mackerel tartare with cucumber and apple; native lobster croquettes with chilli, ginger and coriander; Dorset crab raviolo with curried bisque; braised shoulder of Cornish lamb shepherd’s pie; stuffed saddle of Cornish lamb with a rich lamb jus; and miso caramel parfait with banana and peanut.

Elysian Arcs 

Add some colour to your month and head over Leadenhall Building to soak up this new rainbow-coloured installation. 

Entitled Elysian Arcs, this giant outdoor immersive light and sound installation has been created by award-winning design studio, Atelier Sisu. The collection of arcs contrasts the surrounding City architecture. On display until 15th March, Londoners can head down to explore this 20ft-high spectacle, snapping photos and immersing themselves in this creative masterpiece.

Art lovers, this one’s for you… The Connor Brother’s Pulp Fiction series is now on display at the Red Eight Gallery. 

Located within the Royal Exchange, you’ll be able to uncover the British duo’s highly popular artworks that use both a combination of hand printing and silkscreen varnish upon books prints from the last century. The Motherhood Monologues

With Mother’s Day coming up, The Cinema at Selfridges is raising a glass to the special women in our lives with a series dedicated to motherhood. 

Each screening will be introduced by Sharmadean Reid MBE – founder of The Stack World – followed by a screening with light drinks and refreshments. The screenings include The Joy Luck Club, a book-to-screen adaptation based on Amy Tan’s bestselling novel spanning generations and continents; Miss Juneteenth, a film that follows a former winner of a local pageant and single mother and her daughter’s relationship; and 20th Century Women, a coming-of-age narrative centred around a mother who raises her son a little unconventionally.

BFI Flare 

BFI Flare, London’s annual LGBTQIA+ film festival, returns this month, with an action-packed lineup of brilliant films and shorts. 

Taking over BFI Southbank from 13th until 24th, it’s a communal celebration of queer cinema. This year’s highlights include Levan Akin’s Crossing, a film that follows a duo who trace the steps of a young trans woman who vanished in Istanbul; Lady Like, a documentary exploring the life of RuPaul’s Drag Race royalty, Lady Camden; and The Queen of My Dreams, a story of love and war between a queer woman and her mother.

Oranj Chef Residency 

From 5th until 30th March, Shoreditch’s natural wine bar, Oranj, will be welcoming ex-Bubula’s Helen Graham for an exclusive three-week residency. Londoners will have the chance to experience her unique vegetarian flare, sampling a new take on vegetarian cookery. 

With recipes featured in Great British Chefs, The Guardian and Vogue, this pop-up will see Graham draw on her Middle Eastern and Ashkenazi roots, all while championing seasonal veggies and flavour-packed combinations.
