Only Murders In The Building Returns For Season 4

If there’s one show on TV that we just can’t stop coming back to, it’s Only Murders In The Building: the comedy-crime-mystery series seems to get better with each season, and luckily its fourth outing is just around the corner. Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short as three podcasters turned sleuths, Only Murders’ fourth season will take us back to New York City and The Acronia building to continue the storyline set up in Season 3’s finale- there’s another mystery afoot. Here’s all we know:

What’s Only Murders In The Building Season 4 about?

Most likely you’re familiar with the show if you’re reading this, and if not then be warned for spoilers: as the third season wrapped up, we found out that the killers of poor Paul Rudd’s character Ben were none other than Cliff and Donna, the producers of Oliver (Short)’s play Death Rattle Dazzle who happened to hold a grudge. However, just as one case ended, another opened, as the final moments of the season finale saw the death of Sazz (Jane Lynch), the stunt double of Charles (Martin), who was mistaken for the actor himself. Now it’s up to our main trio to find out who was the assailant that gunned down Sazz, and why they were apparently targeting Charles.

Unfortunately, there are no immediate leads to go on, with none of the three able to think of why Charles or Sazz would be on someone’s hit list. Before succumbing to her wounds, Sazz did manage to partially write something in blood, most likely a pointer to the answer, but Charles, Oliver and Mabel (Gomez) still have their work cut out for them. While they (and we) don’t know the motivations yet, the show’s creators have teased in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that season 4 will explore consequences and elements of the past coming back to haunt our characters, but who or what those are is up in the air.

Who’s joining the cast?

Only Murders has gotten some attention for its guest stars: last season’s big-name guest Meryl Streep is set to be returning as Loretta Durkin, but that’s not the only guest spot. Cast announcements have revealed that Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon and Kumail Nanjiani are all joining the fold as new characters who we’ll get acquainted with in Season 4. Only Murders In The Building is set to return to screens on 27th August, and you can watch the trailer below.
