David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan & A Spice Girl Join Only Murders In The Building
Cosy crimes don’t come much cosier than Only Murders In The Building, the hit Hulu series that stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short. Back this year for a sixth season, the mystery comedy is shaking things up a bit by moving the action away from New York and over the Atlantic to London. There’s also a hell of a supporting guest cast, including David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan and Gerri Halliwell Horner. Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Only Murders in the Building Season 6 about?
The sixth season picks up after the shocking events of the season 5 finale, which left renowned true-crime podcaster Cinda Canning (played by guest star Tina Fey) as the latest murder victim, setting up the next outing’s mystery in classic Only Murders fashion. As Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) begin investigating what happened, the mystery quickly leads them across the pond to London, marking the series’ first season set largely outside New York and the Arconia building.
The rest of the plot details remain characteristically under wraps, although it looks like there’ll be references and spoofs of British detective icons like Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes, as the trio of amateur detectives try to find out exactly what happened to Cinda.
Who else stars, and what else do we know?
By far the most exciting aspect of this new season that’s definitely turned our heads is the huge guest cast who’ve been announced to appear. Only Murders has always had some big names attached, from Fey to the likes of Meryl Streep, Renée Zellweger and Sting, but Season 6’s Brit celeb guests take the cake. Current confirmed faces set to appear include David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent, Derek Jacobi, Jennifer Saunders, Martin Freeman, Simone Ashley and Sharon Horgan- and even a former Spice Girl in Geri Halliwell Horner. Talk about a stacked cast! Meanwhile, returning supporting stars including Tina Fey, Jane Lynch and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are also expected to appear.
When does it release?
An official premiere date has yet to be announced, though it will likely follow the same pattern of previous releases and arrive in the early autumn of this year on Disney+. Watch this space for first look images and a trailer.
