Celebrity Hair Stylist Shares 3 Easy Party Hair Styles To Create At Home

London-based hair stylist Neil Moodie has tousled many celebrity locks for the red carpet – think Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Cara Delevingne and Jodie Comer, to name a few. Here, Moodie shares how to create party hair at-home, with minimal fuss and maximum glamour.
1. The Semi Chignon
Inspired by the hair Neil created on Gemma Chan when she attended the Louis Vuitton S/S 2024 show in Paris, this style is a 1/3 up and 2/3 down chignon, which is basically when the hair is wrapped bun-style at the back of the head.
Step-by-step guide
1. Spritz the hair with a primer and colour protector, layer up with a weightless volume mousse.
2. Blow dry using a large round brush to get root volume and some fullness through the mid-lengths and ends. Blow drying the top away from the face.
3. Once dry, spray the hair with a generous amount of texturiser through the roots and the mid-lengths and ends, to give the hair some oomph.
4. Take a section of hair just behind the front hairline and about 2/3cm above the ears (leaving sections to hang loose) and pull it up into a loose ponytail on the crown.
5. Twist this into a slightly messy chignon and pin it into place, leaving out a few ends to spike out from the chignon.
6. Generously spritz hairspray to fix the style in place.
7. After tonging, take a comb and loosely comb out the waves to give the hair a natural finish.
2. The Clean Low Pony
A brilliant look from office to party, inspired by many looks at the Fashion Weeks. Think clean side partings with quiffs that give tresses a soft, androgynous feel – both incredibly versatile and effortlessly chic.
Step-by-step guide
1. On damp hair put a clean parting on the desired side.
2. Apply a volumiser to the roots, then dry the hair with a paddle brush to flatten the roots, building direction for the ponytail.
3. Spray with strong-hold hairspray and comb back into a low ponytail.
4. Finish with an added mist of hairspray to set the look.
3. The Sleek Back Side Parting
A key trend for winter and ideal for the party season. This looks best if hair is super shiny, and the look is particularly flattering on pixie, bob, and longer lengths. If you want to create extra wow, consider factoring in a bun into the look.
Step-by-step guide
1. Spritz a prep and hair protector while the hair is wet.
2. Before drying the hair, sleek it back and create a side parting, then dry the flat bit using a flat brush.
3. With the help of a comb, apply gel, sectioning the hair towards the back and applying the gel section by section.
4. Dry the gel with the help of a diffuser, once dry the look should stay until the next wash.
