I Wanna Dance With Somebody is about the life of pop vocalist Whitney Houston, charting her rise to worldwide fame from an unassuming, yet talented, choir girl. Based on what we’ve already seen in the trailer, the biopic will also depict Houston’s marriage to Bobby Brown, with the expectation of delving deeper into her tumultuous personal relationships.

The film is directed by celebrated director Kasi Lemmons – who was behind the critically-acclaimed  2019 biopic of Harriet Tubman, title Harriet. It is also produced by Clive Davis, the man who discovered Houston himself, while Anthony McCarten, known for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody and Darkest Hour, wrote the screenplay. All in all, a pretty stellar team.

The cast is equally as impressive with rising stars and veteran actors taking on roles. Then there’s the much-loved Stanley Tucci, who as record producer Clive Davis, and Nafessa Williams, Ashton Sanders, Clarke Peters, and Tamara Tunie making the rest of this star-studded cast.

The biopic is filled to the brim with both rising stars and veteran actors, from Naomi Ackie to Stanley Tucci.

Although Whitney Houston’s iconic singing voice will be inserted into the film, director, Lemmons, has no doubt Ackie will steal the hearts of audiences. “She completely inhabits the character of Whitney,” Lemmons praises, before adding that viewers “will all be reminded how lucky we were to have Whitney with us for the time we did.”

Whilst Clive Davis himself  commented, “Naomi is the real deal and I can’t imagine a better choice for this iconic role.”
